I just don't know what to do today

I still have 3 hours before I have to be leaving town for work today. I do have about 30min of running around to do in town before I go. That's not the problem.

I haven't been running yet this month.

It's raining outside. My cough is back, and getting worse. I am actually coughing mucous up out of my lungs. I'm not sick, but I can see where this is going if I don't get it dealt with. I can't afford to be sick.

So as much as my mind is telling me I should be getting out there and running today, I am wondering. Wondering if my body is telling me no. I'm not 100%. It would be so much easier for me if I knew.

I'm so confused.

I am making plans to get into see a doctor later this week. I have to juggle work "stuff" to be able to do it, but I think I can clear my Thursday during the daytime. I'll be able to go and sit at a doctors office until someone can see me. I HATE doing that, but I really don't know what else to do.

I know breathing deeper will help clear this cold out. Running does that. But running in cold wet weather might actually have the opposite effect. So instead I'm trying to consciously breathe deeper. Fill my lungs to capacity, hold it for a few seconds, and exhale.

It doesn't help though. It doesn't help with this feeling of guilt. Guilt that I'm not doing what I need to do to get my training back on track. To loose the weight.

I'm so confused.

    you HAVE to take care of your health first .... see the doctor and then see how you feel. getting healthier should never make you feel guilty.

    You definitely need to do whatever it takes to get in to see the doctor. This thing has dragged on far too long and you need to deal with. It's a hard line sometimes - resting and recovering vs. being back on track. Maybe some low intensity stuff at home or a walk instead of a run today?

    Actually, when you are coughing up mucus that is a good sign. Your body is evicting the captured enemies it has eradicated. However, since you have had this so long I think it is a good idea to see the doc. Hope that all goes well.

    I think you are smart to listen to your body, like you are. I also think it's good that you're going to see your Dr. You could also have a sinus infection or something. Take good care of yourself. emoticon emoticon

    So if running isn't much of an option because of the weather, do you have other options like circuit training videos or a treadmill you could use from home?

I know what you mean by allowing your body to heal vs. wanting to get back on track. Considering that you're talking about sitting in the waiting room on Thursday, in your sneakers (as opposed to shoes), I would do low intensity exercises, at best until seeing the doc. At least it would keep your body moving until you get the meds you need to feel better. Just don't get used to the steroids. :-P
