85 pounds is HEAVY

Yesterday for lunch, my health coach and I got together to go over my progress and check in. It had been the first time she'd seen me in person since I started the program, and although she had seen the pictures I sent her, she was stunned.

"Girl, you lost a toddler!"

To illustrate just how MUCH I lost, we headed to Whole Foods and found 85 pounds worth of STUFF. I tried to carry it in my arms while standing, but I found I just couldn't!

It was then that I was like, "Oh, crap, how did I EVER carry all this around?!" No wonder my knees ached, my feet hurt, I panted when climbing stairs! I can't even carry 85 pounds in my arms now - my body must have been SCREAMING at me to get rid of this excess weight!!

This was an absolutely great exercise, and I recommend it to everyone. Either head to your closet or to your grocery store, and pick up a bag (or 10!) representing how much weight you've lost. Maybe it will be a 5 pound sack of potatoes, maybe it will be a 10 pound bag of dogfood, maybe it will be a 25 pound box of cat litter, maybe it will be 3X 25 pound bags of rice + 2X 5 pound bags of potatoes like me! The point is, feel that weight in your arms. THAT is what you got rid of. THAT is no longer on your body.

And you know the most awesome thing? That bag of dogfood or kitty litter or potatoes can be put away in the closet or pantry, and you don't have to carry it around all day!

I was so glad to put those 25 pound bags of rice away after we got the picture. I'd much rather have the weight in those bags than I would on this body.

I love having a reference point. I've lost over 40 pounds -- the weight of a 5-gallon bottle of water. I can lift it, but I sure can't carry it for long!

This is an incredible experience. I lost 60 lbs altogether, but at 55 lbs gone, my DH gave me a 55 lb. bag of dog food and I could barely lift it.

This blog is so encouraging. I can't wait to loss (more than the 2 pounds I have) so I can try that exercise. Just the thought of carrying those pounds make me tired. Right now I find it hard to carry a 10 bag of potatoes. Even my laptop is hard. I get my son to do it. Think if I get rid of that much or more weight!

That is incredible! Way to go! And a very good analogy to boot. Years ago Oprah pulled a wagon filled with fat- maybe it was butter, I don't recall, anyway she pulled it out to point out what the weight looked like that she had lost- it really drives it home for most of us. Thank you.

You have done a great job and look wonderful.

I've lots a bit over 50 pounds, the weight limit for suitcases nowadays. That's a lot to lift, and when I do, the sense of accomplishment is in my face. I took THIS off my body and am never going to put it back there again.

Congratulations on your success!

Way to go. We don't realize how far we have come until we do something like this. I can remember how I used to hug those 75# bags of feed to get them to the feed room and like you I have carried all that around. for so many years. No wonder I don't have any knees. I only have 7 more # to go for 100#.off.But I still have away to go to be a healthy weight. Yes we all need someone to remind us of how for we have come. Thanks and Great Job emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
