Beauty... Redefined

Tuesday, June 04, 2013

Sometimes on SparkPeople I feel uncomfortable saying "Wow, you look great!" (even though it's true) because I do believe we should be celebrating people's health more than their looks. On the last Biggest Loser finale, I remember one of the contestants saying that he not only looked better, but his health was so much better, too. And I remember thinking, "Right on!"

There are these two sisters who run a website called Beauty Redefined, in which they talk about these issues. They tweet at @TakeBackBeauty and here is their website:

Hope you're having a great day today!

I really want to thank you for this website. I think I found a new regular to visit. I have a very terrible body image and I am really trying to just love me. I am taking my thoughts away from "losing weight" to "fit and healthy". I have a loving boyfriend who could care less what I look like as long as I am happy with myself. And quite honestly, I can't say I am hard to look at! I don't know why I have such a problem with me. But I really think this website is going to lift me up and remind myself I am an average person. I don't want to be surgically or digitally altered.... ever. I want to find the beauty in who I am as a person... again I thank you.

Good point... I do try to make the right choices primarily for my health, but I would be lying if I said it didn't feel awesome to hear someone say you look great every once in a while. When we look great, it's typically a reflection of the healthy choices we've been making. As long as you don't only comment on a person's appearance, I think it's all right. I always take notice when friends post about their progress toward fitness or health goals as well.
