30 weeks till New Year's

Tuesday, June 04, 2013

Well, two weeks down after re-starting low carb, and a drop of 11.6 lbs, to 230.4. I am happy with that. My goal for next week is to just get into the 220's, since I gained a bit of weight since yesterday. I started taking Prednisone, and have another 4 pills today, and then 2 pills for Wed-Thu, and 1 pill on Fri-Sat. I only gained about a lb, so hopefully it won't be like before, when I gained 10 lbs in 5 days while taking the steroids.

I have to re-wrap the knee for today, and hopefully it is totally pain free by tomorrow. I have no idea why it started hurting, so I may go buy something permanent to wear on my knee for support that I can just slip on, instead of wrapping it. It took the nurse 20 seconds, but will probably take me 5 minutes, and feel like it is falling off.

I am volunteering today at 11 a.m. @ the Democrats office. They will be handing out little American flags for Independence Day, but of course need to put name tags on the flags, because not only should you love America, but you should love the politician who gave you a $.10 flag too! Most of the other volunteers are 70 year old retired teachers, and I like talking to the older generation. They see things from a different perspective. Not much B.S. you will hear, or can say to a 74 year old grandmother. They can spot it easily, and don't care enough to use it. So they just say whatever they think, and it can be amusing. Younger people will lie, or sugar coat things. I tend to be more blunt. So, along with being as healthy as the 74 year olds, so we can share stories about the ailments we have, I can have a real conversation. I love debating politics. All I have to do is avoid the brownies and cookies they will bring, without offending them.

Today is sad though, because another TV show's season has ended. Revolution. It won't be back till the fall, and I am rapidly having to switch to books, and exercise. Within a few weeks, The Voice, and Hell's Kitchen will be done too. Game of Thrones ends this coming Sunday. The Newsroom starts in a month, but it will be slim pickings till September. I have DVR'd the top 100 football players of 2013, so that and baseball will have to do. Of course, if my Tigers would wake up and start winning 2 out 3 games, that would help.

I won't be walking today, but will do a band workout later for my upper body. Hopefully I can start walking again in a few days. My brother quit low carb, which actually makes my diet easier. Instead of splitting a lb of chicken thighs for supper, and having to cook some ground beef, or chicken legs for lunch, I can just make the chicken, and add some tomatoes, and green beans, and split it for lunch AND dinner. He lost 2 lbs in 2 weeks, and I think he was cheating at the pizzeria. He loves carbs, and it didn't work. So now he is eating peanut butter and jelly for lunch. More precisely, he has something called Goober, which has both in the same jar. At 300 lbs, he should be able to lose some weight on any diet, as long as he sticks to it, and no pizza/pop. I think the Goober is a violation of nature though. Hopefully we both keep dropping.

I am a little happy to be doing my own diet, and not having to switch it up because he is on the same diet. I couldn't do 1.5 servings of my normal lunch/dinner, and so I switch my lunches, so he could eat pork chops. Am I selfish, for thinking this way? Maybe, but I think I have plenty of work to do on myself, and I still cook his dinner for him. Cooking noodles, and spaghetti sauce doesn't bother me, or watching him eat cereal, of sandwiches. I wish him success, but I am a meat and vegetable eater, and he is a carb eater.

I have been at 230 several times in the past few years, and need to make this the last time. I have been close to Onederland, almost as many times as I drew close to 300, and it is becoming as big a goal, due to its elusiveness. So with 30.4 to get there, and 30 weeks, I just need to stay on track, and lose 1 lb a week. This should be do-able.

The weather this week has been beautiful, and it is supposed to be 69 and sunny. The next 5 days never go above 72, which is perfect for walking, if I can repair myself enough to continue. So with the help of a little drugs, I just need to get the knee better, resume exercise, and lose 1 lb. Sounds like a good week. Hope everyone else has a great week too.

That's too bad about your brother not sticking to low carb. he could be enjoying the great success that you are. I also understand what you were saying about it being easier on you as far as food prep. I hope you're able to make it through the steroid treatment w/o gaining weight like you did before. I know that would not be fun and could be discouraging. But just knowing it's not fat, but medicine should make it easier if it does happen. And then you would just end up losing it right back anyway. :)

As a wise man (who got kicked off this site) once said, "Guard your success". Good advice, but tough to follow. If I did, I'd have reached goal weight long ago.

Ah, well, we are what we are.

Yeah, age has its privileges. Not many, but a few, at least.
