You Want ME?!

Monday, June 03, 2013

Happy Monday everyone!

Here's a quick re-cap of the recent happenings with me job-wise.

As I have posted in blogs/status updates recently, I interviewed for a full-time position with Victoria's Secret. Found out that they were not going to fill me in the spot that I interviewed for (no, not a bummer!) BUT the manager of another store in our district (who was in my first interview) REALLY liked me and wants me in her store instead.

This means: That I could potentially be moving stores (25 min drive instead of 10-15... nbd) and doing a job that I didn't even interview for (but am still qualified for).

SO. She had me call her and we talked about coming out to shadow and work for her for a few hours which I did on Saturday. I. Had. A. BLAST. Now I get to play the waiting game because there is also another girl who is a candidate for the same spot (but I kind of think I have a little bit of an edge... I hope).

I talked to my current store manager about it, and she told me that she would reserve the part-time position of the full-time spot that I DID interview for should I for some reason not get full time at the other store, so there is really no lose for me. Either way I will get more hours, a little more pay, and still do what I love.

Now, you may be thinking. "You're working in retail. That isn't glamorous. You went to school and have a degree in education and you're excited about retail?"

YES I AM!!!!

Yes, I know all of the aforementioned, but there is nothing quite like working with the team of girls (and 2 guys!) and meeting SO many new and different people throughout the course of one day at work. Do I love teaching? Sure... I went to school for it. But do I love working as a team and then actually leaving work AT work? Oh. Heck yeah.

A year ago, I had no idea that this would be where I was or what I would be doing, but I am happy, and am now considering going back to school doing online classes should I get full time. Going back for some kind of business degree makes sense for me right now to have another option for the rest of my life other than teaching.

For now, I'm going to work my butt off until the final decision is made and hopefully I will be making a great transition!!!

Hope you all have a great start to your FIRST WEEK OF JUNE!

I totally get what you're saying about being able to leave work at work. I'm a teacher and that is the one aspect of my job that does tend to get old. The days when you can leave on time with no work hanging over your head are definitely few and far between. And working retail can be fun. I worked retail in high school and actually enjoyed it. As long as you're happy, that's what matters. I hope you get the job!!

That's got to be the best feeling that they're considering you for the position at the other store. I think that moving toward something you love is much more important than worrying about what you got your degree in. emoticon emoticon

I love that you are so positive! And while this potential position may not be your lifelong goal, it is a chance to do better, and that is definitely something to celebrate! I know you were worrier previously with not having a full time position, so I know this new opportunity would be perfect for you. Hoping you get picked :)
