Organic Garden

Sunday, June 02, 2013

So far we have had great success with our strawberries emoticon lettuce emoticon onions emoticon as well as dill, cilantro, basil and mint. We have had plenty of salad for the last two months. emoticon emoticon

What we have learned so far:

•Don't overcrowd.. Follow space guidelines
*our cabbage didn't have enough room

•Bib lettuce is easier to grow than iceberg
*less of an issue w/the slugs

•Have a plan for slugs..they are gross and will eat just about any green leaf

•Don't let cilantro grow until it flowers unless you want coriander seeds

•Prune buds off basil

•Use marigolds and lavender to help keep pests away

Our tomato, cucumber and pepper plants are coming along fine. We may put in eggplant today or tomorrow.

Gardens are so rewarding. Learning from year to year what works and what doesn't is part of the fun of gardening. Yours sure looks great. I want to try Bib Lettuce. My Mom says it is good and crisp.

    Great looking garden!

My slug secret--take a small dish (like a drip dish from a small pot). Bury between plants so the lip is even with the ground. Fill the dish w/beer. Slug like the smell of beer but will drown in it. Empty and refill every couple of days. emoticon
