Is This Spooky or What?...

Saturday, June 01, 2013

I was recently on Walmart's website where I put some items in the shopping cart. I changed my mind about the purchases and removed all of the items from the shopping cart. Well, I just logged back in SparkPeople, and believe it or not, there were all of the items I had put in the shopping cart and removed. Just like any of the other advertisements, Walmart's just appeared as nice as you please to solicit a buy from me...

I am not sure what to think of this except my ID with SparkPeople must be tied into Walmart's, or vice versa.

I think it is called flamming - not sure though - and yes they are linked to your history

I did a double take when I first saw it too. Deja vu, I thought. Yes, it's the cookies. I just ignore it or use it as a reminder of what I was looking at so I can re-evaluate if I really need the items. It's like my personal assistant.

Flamenm is correct - this happens all the time with the cookies - you should clear your cookies all the time.

I agree with FlameNM, and I always clear my cookies whenever I visit a website that has my personal info saved. I don't like the idea of these tracking cookies following us around. I also run my Norton Anti-virus before turning off my computer. emoticon

It's not that your accounts are linked.
It's taht almost all webpages use trackign cookies. And those cookies have metadata about things you purchased, what you looked at, etc.
SO clear your cookies all the time. And delete your history.

That is weird and creepy. I would not like it.

Not something I would like to have happen. Seems like crossing a line of acceptable into definitely not ok.

It happens here and on most any page I am on now-you do a search for something and suddenly you get all the ads. I had also looked at some swim suits at one site and it kept popping up telling me my cart was going to expire soon. It is kind of creepy how they catch all the info about us.

I have had similar things happen on Facebook. I will do a search and then log into facebook and there will be advertisements for what I just searched.
