Lost my dad this week

Saturday, June 01, 2013

I became an orphan this week.
My dad had a rare form of cancer that took him from us suddenly on Memorial Day.
My brothers and I had already lost our mom 8.5 years ago from breast cancer.

My heart aches that I won't hear his voice on the other side of the telephone ever again.

But I am proud of my brothers and I for pulling together and being the best friends we could possibly be to each other. I hope my parents are seeing this from heaven.

I lost nearly 4 pounds this week. I exercise religiously and eat healthy every day, but this week there was no exercise and lots of sitting, but luckily I got my water in and ate well.

I look forward to continuing my weight loss journey as my parents watch me proudly from wherever they are, the place where they're together again.

Make the most of your life every day. Love unconditionally. Forgive.

- Heidi

I will add a prayer for his soul and for the comfort and consolation of you and your brothers.

I lost my dad October of 1977 and I still miss him. It just doesn't hurt like it used to.

But you know you will hear them often...just knowing the way they'd react, what they'd say or do, and the love they shared lives on with your and your brothers...keep it strong just as you are doing. My step dad who was the closest thing to a dad that I'd had for about 28 years, left in 2006...He's still with me.

Not an were adopted, remember?

Live the's the only thing that lasts.

Heidi, I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing...and that both parents are now no longer here. I hope that for right now, it will be a tiny measure of consolation - even if it seems remote at this time - that they both dwell, and always will, right in your own heart. Lots of emoticon , Susan

My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. I'd like to share with you a poem which has been helpful for me:

"The Tide Recedes
M D Hughes
The tide recedes, but leaves behind
Bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down but gentle warmth
Still lingers on the land.
The music stops and yet it lingers on
In sweet refrain.
For every joy that passes
Something beautiful remains"

I am so sorry that you lost your precious dad - mine has been gone for about 18 months and there is not a day that goes by that I don't miss him - the same is true for my mom even though she has been gone for 11 and a half years. We don't stop missing them or loving them but we move forward and do OUR best to BE OUR BEST.

Dear Heidi-big hugs for you. I am sure your parents are very proud of you and your brothers. This is hard. I lost my Dad when I was 20. My Mom is still around, but far, far away. I'm grateful for the internet and Skype.
Again-thinking about you and hugs.
