a May dip

Friday, May 31, 2013

Millen Pond, fed by at least seven frigid springs, is our hot weather haunt. emoticon DH and I enjoy a morning or late afternoon swim all summer long.

Now, last Saturday our town, along with many other places had snow. emoticon Granted for us it was just a dusting to two inches, not measured in feet like Saranac Lake, NY. But the temperatures were in the lower thirties! emoticon

This afternoon, for the first time ever in May (since 1970!), we went swimming emoticon …in Millen Pond!! DH got right into the water and began his routine of various strokes. I, on the other hand, slowly eased my way until my waist was numb, then I started to tread water (more or less). It was only ten minutes or so that we swam about. How exhilarating and energizing! emoticon We’re ready to try again tomorrow…perhaps for fifteen minutes! emoticon Oh, did I mention that the air temperature was 90 something emoticon and will be like that tomorrow? emoticon Would you believe it is a cool 67.6F right now at 11PM? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I know of a wonderful stream with a pool at the bottom of a falls that is cold all summer. (I was going to say all year but duh!)

Woo-hoo. We just turned on the air conditioner, as the temperature is rocketing up here as well.
Snow? This late - oh I take it back. One summer when I lived in Ottawa we had snow in June, and I found that outlandish. So it isn't unheard of - but weird for sure.

You must have access to some wonderful spring water then. It's the best.

I used to love plunging into some of those mountain fed rivers and streams of the north country. Hot summer day, you'd jump in...and you swore you could feel your heart pause from the shock for just a second.
now i just worry that maybe the heart won't un-pause emoticon
