Goal Accountability for May

Friday, May 31, 2013

3.5 pounds lost for a total of 59 pounds since July 15. We're regulating thyroid meds right now, and I'll find out 6/4 bloodwork results from this 2 months of thyroid meds. However, my base temperature has gone down to 95.4. In March it was 97.5. Amazing that I'm still able to lose weight, though that is slower.

Fitness: kept up the streak of over 45 minutes daily
The pool, morning and/or night depending on appointments and storms
Walk a mile morning and/or night, sometimes more
Indoor DVDs and simple fun equipment when weather chases me inside.
Last week in May, I started doing the 4 minute TABATA intense workouts in pool daily, usually in the evening. Usually doing a high knee running with aqua fitness mitts on for added resistance.

I could see immediate benefits.

Healthy eating: I started the smoothie challenge on my Eat to Defeat Team and that appears to be a favorite topic.

I've enjoyed creating delicious smoothies that include greens, fruit, flax and water for my breakfast. Sometimes I'll eat walnuts or almonds with it. A great way to start the day!!

Speaking of starting the day, I have continued the challenge of starting the day with fitness and breakfast. Breakfast wasn't a problem because I've always eaten breakfast, and since last August it has been a healthy breakfast. But getting up and doing fitness first thing in the morning hasn't been on my radar.

It has been a great challenge because at the same time, they started opening the pool at 8:00 instead of 9:00. So now I walk 1-2 miles, eat a smoothie, and then work out in the pool between 8-9 in the morning before the sun is wicked. Then I'm indoors until after 6:00 p.m. when I do the walking and pool thing once more.

I have purchased aqua fitness equipment and have developed my own workout routine for the pool besides the treading water which I was doing.

I notice as long as I do deep water leg movement morning and evening, I have no neuropathy, don't need to take aspirin for pain.

And because of my weight loss, and that deep water exercise, my primary physician said I could stop wearing the compression stockings. WooHoo!!

As for responsible adult, I continued my streak of 15 minute Daily decluttering to my own play list for Fly Lady. That's lots of fun. It starts with the Theme from Mission Impossible.

As for nurturing relationships, that has been difficult. I find myself morning and evening at a community pool with ornery, lonely people who have become complainers. I'm ready to put a sign on a door that really doesn't open but has a door knob, nevertheless, "Complaint Department". Though this morning, I met a new lady who wanted to know if I was progressive or conservative. After I told her I was both, we had a wonderful, enlightening conversation. And she never spoke ill of any of her acquaintances. Not once.
Very REFRESHING!!

I find that deep water exercise helps my nerve problems with legs, too. I really missed the pool this winter. My legs have already improved since the pool opened Memorial day, even tho temperature problems and storms have prevented me going every day. Wish our pool had the extended hours yours does! Keep up the good work!

What a wonderful blog. Congratulations on losing the stockings ! That must feel good to have made so much progress. Congratulations also on still losing weight under the circumstances. I hope your thyroid will readjust itself.

We live a long way from the city so I can't do pool things now but when we did live in the city, we had an inground pool at our home. I bought all kinds of pool equipment and loved doing things with my mitts and boots. Plus I had a harness that let me swim in place in the pool so it was like having a pool treadmill. I love not living in the city now but I do have very fond memories of our pool. emoticon

Glad you met a NON-ornery lady and I'm sure she's glad she met you. emoticon
