Still have self-conscious moments.

Friday, May 31, 2013

I went for my swim at noon yesterday. A couple of weeks ago, I started to walk home after each swim and have my SO pick me up en route after about 20 minutes. Yesterday, I walked through the top part of the school yard/soccer field at about 1pm. I thought lunch would be over for the public school kids, but they were all over the yard/field in little groups. I didn't want to turn around and go back up the hill, but I didn't want to walk through them all either. I just had to get to the path where I could start looking for my ride. So I walked through everyone, waved hello to the teacher-on-duty and kept going. I smiled at every kid that looked my way and kept going. I didn't want to hear any comments, and for the 5-6 minutes it took me to get across the field, I didn't. No one made any rude comments. My heart was thudding, but it didn't happen. I got across without any problems. Except the tightness in my shins from hoof-ing a bit faster than usual. Well, thanks for listening.

Even the most beautiful super models in the world have self-conscious moments, I am sure. It's not unusual. But, I have to give you a huge high-five for pushing through the discomfort and continuing on with your walk. The more you do that, the easier it gets, too. In no time at all, you won't even think twice about walking through those kids, and confidence is the one thing guaranteed to stop "comments" in their tracks.
