Well I am feeling motivated. After years of dreading any kind of exercise, I think I've found my thing - swimming! It eliminates everything I hate about exercise - sweating, being hot, feeling like a rat, counting down the seconds and minutes until it's over, feeling exhausted at the end of a workout... Swimming is a full body workout, leaves me feeling refreshed and a bit exhilarated, and so far, I wake up almost 2 hours earlier than usual with anticipation, rather than dragging myself out of bed. So I'm thinking I've found my THING! I also tried a spinning class last week, which I really enjoyed, but I'm loving swimming so much that I might stick with it for now. If I get bored, I can always mix it up with a few spin classes. You know how I know I'm feeling motivated? The gym location closest to me where I just signed up informed me this week that they're closing the pool for repairs for the summer. I was annoyed that no one told me about that when I signed up a week ago, but I didn't let it be an excuse. I looked up the next closest location, sucked it up and drove twice the distance at the crack of dawn the next day to get my swim in. I'm MOTIVATED! And so far, all of the great stories and comments on Sparks from real people in similar situations - that's really motivating me too!
One other thing that I hope will motivate me - keeping a running total of the distance I've gone in a month and a cumulative total for the year. I didn't see a tool for that, so here's my sign off, which I'll try and remember to keep track of in regular posts. I just started tracking this month, so starting next month, I'll add a 'year so far' tally...
