new to spark people, first day, first blog

hello all. I am new to the community. My name is Tammy. I weigh over 300 pounds and I need to get rid of excess pounds. I ordered the spark solution and the cookbook. I need to get on a strict lifestyle change. Hoping to eliminate some of my weight. I know I need to do this a little at a time to keep it off. also hoping to help my medical conditions related to my obesity.

    emoticon I've been here for over 4 years now. Stick with it - my biggest complaint in SP is that your 'threads' aren't all in one neat little place. . .you can/should/will join a few groups to help motivate you and give you ideas. Join all - stick with what works, let go of what doesn't. Nutrition tracking can be a pain in the beginning - stick with it - it does get easier . . . once you have built your favorites list. Search anything and everything . . . there are things out there that will make sense to YOU that won't necessarily help the next person as much.

    I met someone here on Spark who is quite inspiring . . . she and I are FB friends now as well. . .if you want, I can give you her SparkName, you can read her story - it's impressive.

    Best advice I can give you is HANG IN THERE ... don't give up - you ARE worth it. You will have successes here - and you will have times where you plateau and will feel like you aren't moving in the right direction . . . during those plateaus - that's when SP becomes the most powerful - all you have to do is ask and many, MANY people will share their stories of how they have been where you are . . . but hang in there, if you stick with it - you can't help to succeed.

    Welcome to SparkPeople! I have found this to be such a supportive community in making healthy lifestyle changes. It was a little over whelming at first, but I just focused on tracking my food with the food tracker- which takes a little while to get used to, but will get easier as you build up a "favorites" list for your foods that you often eat. And I also just started to move more, but not really tracking that for the first month. Hang in there, and you WILL see progress! emoticon

    emoticon , a year ago I was where you are now. A year later I am much closer to 200. Don't feel overwhelmed. Small changes over time really do make a big difference over time. I started tracking my food good and bad. Eliminating the bad adding more good. A month or so later I added walking. I now walk at least 1 hour a day most days. I am still trying to get into the strength training thing, but need to be consistent. As you progress you feel better, stronger and have so much more energy! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Welcome to Spark People! You will learn so much here! It is a great way to learn about what you can do to have an all around healthy lifestyle! The most important thing to remember is NEVER give up on yourself or the site! Sometimes it takes a while to develop healthy habits, they don't happen overnight....... Many of us have learned that.
