Lowering Your A(1)c

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

I went to follow up with my endocrinologist today. She checked my A(1)c and we were pleased with the results until...I informed the dr that I was in the hospital in March when I received 3 pints of blood. Her mouth dropped open then she said you know the person that donated the blood did not have diabetes. It takes some time for the sugar in my body to start traveling through my body with the new blood.

The results would have been nice if the readings had been mine. But, emoticon I couldn't help laughing at the dr's expression when I told her I had gotten 3 pints of blood.

I am definitely working to keep my A(1)c at 6.4. It has been some time since my A(1)c has been under 7.

Maybe the results will be yours. Keep pushing.

I actually thought about a full-body transfusion. It wouldn't work because the sugar is made by the body so it would be no time until all of the blood would be contaminated again. It is amazing how things work and we thought think about them until something happens. When I told my dr about the 3 pint transfusion, I had no thought about how that would affect my A(1)c.

Very interesting. It would be nice if you got enough to keep it a bit lower, right? Take care of yourself!

Good luck on the A1C! With two diabetics in the family I know what a challenge that can be!

Same here, I never thought that things like that could happen. Sure makes sense, though. I'm sorry that you had a rough time in March. emoticon emoticon

I never thought of that scenario.
Good luck getting the A1c down.
