My son is in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He started going to the gym in January and I have to say I have seen such a dramatic change in my baby. He is 13 years old and has food allergies since he was a year old. So he doesn't eat any type of corn, no gluten, parmesan, green peppers, sugar, and limited dairy. He has always been a slim child so when we had to go gluten free 3 years ago he his body had hardly any body fat. He also has dyslexia and has had issues with coordination. Since starting BJJ that has improved so much. The gym he goes to is very close with Rickson Gracie in fact they just had a seminar with Rickson a few weeks ago. My son didn't go because we had prior commitments. I tell my son all the time dyslexia doesn't mean he can't learn it simply means we need to find out what helps him learn the best way. There are so many people that have dyslexia that he isn't alone. I tell him all the time what a great mind he has.
My son is 5'7 130 lbs and is so defined I am amazed by him. He has 6 pack abs!!! Jealous!!! I asked my son the other day how serious is he about BJJ? He tells me "mom it's a lifestyle I want. Too many people think it is a sport and it is to a point but it is so much more and I want that". Proud mama moment right there. So I told my husband, we already eat clean, well pretty much, he still drinks waaaaaay too much pepsi. I am trying to get my husband to also start doing BJJ I think it is something that will benefit him in many ways.
I love the gym my son goes to and they have really helped him in ways they don't realize. I sent them a message on facebook after I had an IEP meeting at my son's school and told them they had a hand in his success and thanked them.
I realized I want to do BJJ too. I feel too self conscious to do the classes with guys in there. I don't feel my body is ready for it just yet either. I will however start with yoga and breathing exercises. I'm not going to cry about how my adrenals and thyroid have made my weight go up and down. It is what it is and now it is time to make my body match my mind. When I really think about all the things my body does for me, I really owe it so much. Despite years ago the wrong foods, beverages, and stress it has fought to keep me healthy. It's time to make sure I am doing the right things for my body!!
Time to pick up my kids from school. Ta ta for now. Be blessed!!!
