Memorial Day Murph!

Here's me with the group I did the Memorial Day Murph!!

Ok so I did complete the Memorial Day Murph. Then a few hours later I wanted to die. LOL So ok I finished last. And when I say "last" I mean...LAAAAAAAAAAST. LOL It took me 94:54 to complete it. But you know what? I finished it! My goal next year is to finish it in around an hour. By then I'll be doing CrossFit for a year so I fully believe I can do it! I think the part that slowed me down the most was the running. If it wasn't for that, I would've had a much better time. But like I said, it gives me something to work towards! Oh, and this Thursday I "graduate" from On-Ramp! Next week I start WODs! I'm excited about that!

So I think most people here know I had gastric bypass and my whole story with that. Today I went to see my gastric bypass doctor and told him about eating Paleo and CrossFit and everything I've been doing and I just felt like he was just disappointed that my weight loss has stalled. I told him what I'd been eating and he still asks me if I've been having any sugar, etc.. I was just thinking, "Really?" And he didn't understand why you can't eat legumes on Paleo. OMG it was like talking to a wall. I felt like I was defending myself! Argh! But I suppose he's probably not used to working with people like me either; as I view it as a tool and not a cure. And I set ambitious goals. I see him again in September and I'll be getting blood work done AND by then I'll be doing CrossFit for 5 months so my weight should start moving between now and then. Plus my bloodwork will rock! Still, frustrating and I know you guys will understand here. It felt like the fact I was losing body fat and doing all these things didn't matter because my WEIGHT didn't move. Ugh. Frustrating!

I feel your frustration with your doctor...and it does seem like in his field, he should understand Paleo and the difference of the numbers on the scale vs. gaining MUSCLE, improving your cardio endurance and what you know will be better bloodwork results. So that being said, I think your attitude of using him and your surgery as a tool, not a cure, is definitely the way to go. And you are SO RIGHT - I can't wait until your next appointment in September to show him even MORE progress that you know you will make. You are SO right though - progress is NOT measured by the scale alone.

    Burn the scale! Muscle mass is healthier and stronger and a lot more sexy.
Don't worry, come September you will drop his jaw.
Is your blood group O? Paleo is a very good diet for Os

    Piah... do what you know is right.. most physicians don't have a clue about paleo.. or crossfit..

CONGRATS on completing MURPH!! That is awesome... I did a scaled Murph and cannot imagine doing the whole thing.. but I will.. someday!
