Day 57 - Could this day get any slower!?!?

Monday, May 27, 2013

I am working 11 am to 9 pm and it is going so slow! I did watch a movie with the clients that had Robin Williams as a priest. It was a cute movie. I dabbled on the internet and read here and there...

The two day staff left and the house manager came in to start on dinner. I've done the laundry and made the client's bed with the client's help. She has dementia on top of her downs syndrome and is going downhill quickly. It is sad to see her rapid decline and we think her time is nearing since she is now fogetting how to eat her foods. She has lost a consider amount of weight but we allow her to eat at the table for a good hour with staff assistance. We were instructed to not hand feed her but to allow her to feed herself so that she does not lose this ability. It is frustrating when she takes small bites (one bean at a time, or one macaroni noodle at a time small) and then an hour later, we have to declare her done eating.

------

Today I have been thinking about Memorial Day and my son who served in Afghanistan. He lost two buddies over there and almost a third. His sargent stepped on an IED 10 feet from my son and lost both legs. My son suffered a head concussion but had no physical scars from the blast - thank God! However, my son wears a bracelet honoring his fallen soldier in his memory. It is a constant reminder to him and to anyone who sees him wearing it.

-------

I hope everyone has a joyous day in the celebration of our freedom from the sacrifices from our fine soldiers. Please pray for all people who are in battle and the ugly wars that everyone suffers from.

God bless you and your son. Thank him for his sacrifice and dedication to his country from me! My father is a Colonel in the Army and has served in multiple wars. It is truly a selfless and honorable thing to serve your country.

I'm glad your son didn't get hurt by the IED. I'm sorry he had to endure the loss of friends/brothers. It's an awful sacrifice.

I hope your Memorial Day weekend was wonderful!
