5K Training

I have not been as consistent as i would like to be, in training for a virtual 5K on Sparkpeople. That said, I am not giving up, and just keep trying again the next day. Today, i was able to walk 3 min, and jog 2, for the distance of a 5k (3.1 miles) and completed it in 42 minutes. That is not very fast, but i have a long way to go before I am ready to run a 5K, and just hope to do a more consistent job in training. It was fun to track my run on Map My Run today, and get very specific stats on my distance and time. Now I have the goal of competing against myself, which i kind of like. Now that I know my exact distance on my favorite route, i can powerwalk it on my off day, and compete against my own time on my training day. Well, we will see. My main goal is really to be able to run a 5K for the set date of July 6th and not need my inhaler. I finished a 5K once several years ago, but had trouble breathing. Trying now to train more slowly without an inhaler, and just compete against myself, to finish well. Today if felt as if it could be done. That is at least an OK start. We will see what the next few weeks bring.

  Speed is irrelevant when you first start running. Keeping it slow is the way to increase your endurance and prevent injury.
