Mackinaw Island

Sunday, May 26, 2013

My DS got a job on Mackinaw Island this month. I was so excited. I had two days off but where we were going camping was supposed to be cold and rainy, so we stayed up north. We decided to go see DS who also had the day off.

It was great, we ended up walking around Mackinaw Island, in total, we walked around 7 miles, up a long steep hill and up and down a whole bunch of stairs. Bad me, ate a larger than normal breakfast/lunch knowing that we wouldn't be eating on the Island since it is really touristy area and very expensive to eat at. I am sorry to say, after we got off the island, I was hungry.

Went to a Chinese restaurant, but it was closed. DH suggested Subway, I had a oven roasted chicken breast with a bunch of veggies and honey mustard dressing - no cheese. I have to log the food, so I am hoping that walking around helped.

It was such a beautiful day, I thought that the island was more touristy so I had no urge to go there, but it was great hiking off the beaten path and DS wants us to go back to show us more of his summer home. It is the first time he has been away, I know he is graduated. He is having a blast. He will start working on horse drawn dray Monday, there isn't any cars allowed on the island.

I love to hike, but just don't have the place or time to hike here in Florida. I miss the hills. emoticon to your son.
Welcome to SP, enjoy the ride and good luck.

I saw this up on the BLC blog list - I'm another Michigander! We went to Mackinaw for the first time last summer. I'd love to see some of the areas you found with your son, but it was crazily touristy for me. Congratulations to your son!
