Memorial Day is a special day that we honor those that have served this country. It bothers me that I saw another person post that the true meaning of this day has been lost. That most people treat it as just another holiday weekend. Although the statement is sad, I have to agree. Most of us go about our lives this special day and forget to celebrate the true meaning. We hold our family gatherings, go camping, hiking, fishing.....whatever it may be. We forget about the people who served, fought, and even died to give them this priviledge. I for one would like to acknowledge all those that served and those who died. Your dad's and brothers have my sincere gratitude and appreciation for what they did. WWII was supposed to be the war that ended all wars but as history has taught us, it wasn't even close to the last. I know back when I was growing up that the Viet Nam war was not a popular one and the people of this country didn't treat veterans well. Many were called murders and baby killers....which i think is extremely unfair. There were no parades or welcome home gatherings. They served their country because they were called upon to make that sacrifice. Some paid with their lives while others survived the war but were scared and changed forever. They are owed a debt which none of us will ever be able to repay. I thank each and every one of you that served and I try to live my life to the fullest. I try to be a good husband and father to my kids....it' all I can do to repay them for what they did. I hope it's good enough. Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
