Hiking Palmer Park II
Sunday, May 26, 2013
Went back to Palmer Park to hike again today. It's Sunday and there were quite a few people there. I figure that makes it safer to hike alone. There's a greater chance of being found if I sprain an ankle or fall down the side of a canyon. The road winds around through the park so no matter where I am I'm not that far from it, but often the ground between the trail and the road is more than a bit treacherous and the shrubs and scrub oaks obscure it. It's nice to know that if I holler someone will hear me. I followed the Kinnikinnik Trail around a canyon and back to my car. It was a bit of a challenge for me at times, especially when a down slope was covered in loose pack leaving no traction. I hate sliding when going down. Funny, it doesn't bother me as much when going up. There were several short steep climbs but my heart rate didn't get anywhere near as high as it did the last time I was in the park. I probably wasn't walking as fast today. For some reason I started out a bit out of breath. By the time I was breathing easier, my hips were complaining, so I never really felt like pushing myself. I'll tell you, getting old's no fun!
