Happy Sunday

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Feeling good today overall...just dealing with the pain from the sciatic nerve. But I remembered that I had one of those Tens machine things. You can buy them here in Mexico without going through a doctor. So I have that on the area where the pain is coming from and hope it knocks it down a bit. My doctor prescribed both Lyrica and
Celebrex for the sciatic nerve. I did take them but I guess you have to take them for a while to have them work as I saw no difference. I was told to take the Lyrica at night...I swear though that it made me a bit dizzy and I am not sure I will continue with it. I will use the Tens and walk with my foot turned out and see if that will work. God only knows that I don't need to add more meds to my already long list of stuff I am taking. Sometimes I feel that all I am doing is taking pills.
Anyway if anyone here has any experience with either of those drugs let me know if they work for you.

It rained again here last night and so nice to get up to the clean fresh air. I will for sure get out and walk the dogs. Nothing else on the agenda but will find something to do. It's funny being here in Mexico when there are holidays in the states but not here. No Memorial Day here. But seeing TV from the states keeps me plugged in to what's going on. God Bless all those that served and sacrificed for our country.

Hope all of you are having a great week end.
Cheers
Sallie

I bet you would have loved it. I am now drinking tea with pineapple mint from my herb garden and thinking of you and wishing we were closer. hugs

God Bless You. Could you be having some problems due to the different medications you are taking. Sometimes they do not mix well and cause other complications

    What is Lyrica?

Lyrica (pregabalin) is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures. Lyrica also affects chemicals in the brain that send pain signals across the nervous system.

Lyrica is used to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), herpes zoster (post-herpetic neuralgia, or neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury.

Lyrica may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important information about Lyrica

You may have thoughts about suicide while taking Lyrica. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.

Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, insomnia, or if you feel agitated, hostile, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

I took the Celebrex years ago and did not find it helpful. Then I read all the information and saw the side effects, so I quit taking it. Hopefully the Tens machine will ease the pain. I know my cousin used it a lot for her back.

The Tens machine is a good idea.
Hope one of your docs is monitoring all the pills you're on.
Have a good day.
My dh is coming back from his sail trip this afternoon.

Being in Mexico it is hard enough to keep up with the days of the week, let alone US holidays LOL

I hate pills....... Prefer the more natural forms of relief. I experienced a lot of pain from sciatic nerve pinch, but my chiropractor relieved that and has not resurfaced.
A TENS unit should bring a lot of relief without meds.

Glad the TENS unit is helping. Better than mds if you can find relief from it.

emoticon There are SO many positive aspects of your healthcare system down there, Sallie - easy accessibility to TENS units just one of them! I'm so glad you could get one - I've heard people report very encouraging results in dulling and even relieving nerve pain using those devices. Keep us posted on how you're doing with yours...and good for you, for being so proactive!

I've had no experience with Celebrex, although I think it's a prescription anti-inflammatory up here. I've never taken Lyrica but have a relative who's on it. At first, he, too, experienced that dizziness, although it went away in time. He claims he's gotten a lot of benefit from that drug. Myself, I take a drug that works similarly, Neurontin, and it works beautifully at dulling - usually even silencing - nerve pain I have from neuropathy.

It's an odd feeling to be somewhere where U.S. holidays aren't observed :) I remember that! Back in the day when I was abroad, there was no Internet (am hereby admitting my induction into "fossilhood," LOL!!), but I remember the weird feeling I'd get on holidays like the 4th of July :) Enjoy that rainy season, too - I used to. Where you are, can you almost tell the time of day by when it's raining? Because I remember the rain would usually start around 3:30 PM or thereabouts in Mexico City :)

Feel better and better, sweet Sallie! - Susan emoticon

My husband has a tens unit and he finds it to be helpful too. No meds needed.
