Pre-Memorial Day Musings...

Sunday, May 26, 2013

SCOOTER4263 wrote a blog on the 13th that I came across today, that triggered some reflections I wanted to share too...

It was about what constitutes a waste of time, when people say we should make a contribution to the world...
********

My mom sure had it right! LOL

She always said that you can't get water from a dry well, that it needs time to replenish... She was a sister and daughter, a wife and mother, the most welcoming hostess to anyone (especially the kids in our neighborhood), and the most compassionate registered nurse ...she poured more water on more thirsty souls than any one I ever met.

I think that's what we've all discovered, and Sparkpeople has supported this...

The time we spend with ourselves-- that is what gives us the strength and tools we need to spend time with others. And with the world.

Thinking about how short life is, how much there is to do and experience... I think the real waste of time is just not doing SOMETHING, finding the joy or peace in it, and SAVORING IT!... Even washing dishes can be an enriching experience if we have the right attitude, right?

So today, my goal is to really pay attention to the tasks I need to do, and to find that inner spring and let it fill up my heart and soul as I work my way through them.

It's Sunday, and a good day for contemplation--and tomorrow is our "official" Memorial Day, so I can't think of a better way to say "Thank you" to my mother for all the things she taught me... the things that I never realized until now... than to try to make them part of me too.

I am grateful to all the people in my life who have contributed to who I am today...

And I also want to thank all the men and women who gave up their lives for our freedom... and those that still do today.

In spite of the strife and stupidity and greed, and people who keep making life complicated when it should be so simple, it is still a wonderful world.

Be well...

Just a picture I found online that I liked... it was free, and so is the feeling it conveys! LOL

I loved your blog! It's odd how you picture people but I always envision you are as the person you want to be, the person you describe in your blog who makes the most of precious moments. I have no idea what your living situation looks like but I picture you on a back porch sitting with Amigo. Talking to him, giving him food, allowing him to relate to you on a level he is comfortable with. I can't think of a better use of time than making the life of a poor kitty better. Through not fault of his own he was born without a home or anyone to love him. You gave him that. You are your mother's daughter. Your well will never be dry.
