After browsing a Spark friend's page, I noticed she is a member of the Official Spark People 5K Your Way Walk/Jog Program.
The name intrigued me, so I decided to check out the program, with the idea that maybe sometime in the future I too could aim for a 5km walk. Jogging/running is out of the question in my case, thanks to osteoarthritis in most joints below the waist, but I'm sure that so long as I take things slowly, I will be able to build up my endurance to walk 5km in one stretch.
The program, so far as I can see, is over three days per week, with a day in between, for 5 weeks. Day one consists of a 15 minute walk, and the final day of the program is a 5km walk. My cardiologist has told me to get back into exercising gradually, so surely I can cope with a 25 minute dog walk each morning, plus a gradual increase in exercise three afternoons each week.
After the past fortnight, I am feeling in need of something to keep my motivation levels high, and walking is something I always enjoy, no matter what the weather. As a little girl, there was always something almost magical about walking in the rain, hearing the rain bounce off my umbrella, and the effect is still just as enjoyable now I'm less than five months away from turning 60.
There is no point in trying to attempt to achieve this new walk with my two male dogs, who have to stop and sniff, and more than just occasionally, water every tree, blade of grass or fence post we encounter. This will be something just for me alone, something I can enjoy by myself, a kind of time out from the real world.
Thank you Maria
You don't even have to post something on my page to motivate me to give something new a try - just a quick look at your Spark Page is enough to to it, lol.
