Adorable Squash

Saturday, May 25, 2013

OK....while I perfectly understand the Bible's reference that "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth," I cannot help being proud of my squash diversity and cuteness...

I've always grown, not, make that "TRIED to grow" (and was successful many, but not all years), yellow and zucchini squash...

But THIS year I actually planted some spaghetti squash, some butternut squash, and some acorn squash.... I'm fairly new to cooking these kinds of squash, but have found some delicious ways to prepare and serve them, so I figured, "How different can it be??"

Well, they took a little longer to sprout and get going, but just look at what I have on the plants right now, the cutest, most adorable little squashes you have ever seen!

They start out tiny just on the stem side of the fairly large yellow squash bloom, and then before you know it, they are golfball size... oh they are PRECIOUS!

It makes me smile just to look at them!

One of God's top ten blessings is to let us participate in the growing - whether it is beans or petunias.

You are His handiwork and emoticon He IS GOOD!

Thank God, Hera didn't find out!

They are very cute..but do you feel awkward saying squashes...I had to reread that many times...almost as if my mind kept wanting to changed it to squished LOL So, are we to stand the last lil guy up on end to look like a pale green growing duckling? very very cute! The way it is, it's like a puppy or lamb curled up napping..

I like most squashes but zucchini. The ones that you are growing now is some of my favorites and I love to cook the acorn with pine nuts along with some salt and pepper coated with olive oil and bake for about 25 minutes. But the nuts go in half way in the cooking process or they will burn.,

I started them as seeds.... just put them in the ground after threat of frost was past, and keep them moist-ish.... and

VOILA! They grow FAST!
