Changing out exercise - gardening

My plateau busting strategy for today was to change out my cardio exercise. My exercise consists of gardening and yard work. This past week I cleaned up an unsightly area of weeks, dug up the ground, planted a new rose bed and mulched the roses. This was i addition to weeding and hoeing in the vegetable garden and dragging around long resistant hoses to water numerous flowers and shrubs around the property. This is certainly doing things at intervals and the work changes daily. I am getting lost of Vitamin D from all that sunshine and I have a problem with a low Vitamin D and need a supplement usually. It has the added benefit of beautifying my yard and getting me to do a great deal of walking as we have a huge vegetable garden and now 5 flower beds as well as numerous newly planted shrubs and trees to care for. We were in the path of a tornado a couple of years ago and this is my first chance to feel good enough to do the garden work I love. The work has paid off as I have gained a beautiful yard and lost about 4 pounds in the past 2 weeks! And some people think gardening shouldn't count as exercise!

    Gardening is a good source of stress release but it is a lot of work. The rewards, flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit, are a great bonus.

    Yep I switched out to gardening too. I love doing it and it's quite a workout! I'm also going to be bike riding with my daughter and I want to get myself a pair of roller skates!

    I like my exercise to produce something tangible other than just bigger muscles or weight loss. It is so much fun to do something like this and we have a large property to play around with here. I am so thankful that I am healthy enough to get out and do it again!

    I live your change up for cardio ... gardening usually does the trick . my best summer weight loss was the year i worked early and got home at 3 every day ... had the rest of the day and into early evening to work on all my weeds/flowers and had so much fun!
    Now I'm retired, so I'm hoping it pays off this year too!

    I agree! I did 4 hours worth and now we're going to put in a patio! More work! Next year is the veggie garden, but not as big as yours!
