What a Difference a Year Makes!

Saturday, May 25, 2013

What changes a year can bring, indeed. I already mentioned this to my team-mates, but I thought I would record this for posterity to remind me when I hit another plateau, or as I keep losing slowly…

I drove to the mall to pick up a birthday gift for my dear son. Parked the car, walked rather jauntily as I was in good spirit to the department store and proceeded to walk thru housewares, thru the men’s dept. onward to the cologne bar for Christopher’s yearly cologne gift . I picked out a new scent off the list he sent me, qualified for a free beach bag with beach games (he’ll love this!) and walked back to my car in the parking lot.

It wasn’t until I sat down that I remembered just a year ago I was using a cane to walk … and I could not make it all the way to the cologne bar. I had to sit on the bed half way there – ditto going back. I remember pain and sweat as that was so hard to walk. Yet, here I am exactly one year later – stronger and healthier.

As of today I am down 48 lbs, increased my movement from non-existent to chair exercises, chair yoga, some Walk Away The Pounds, flexibility and strength exercises. In July 2012 my total minutes was 194 for the month after I started back with SP. Today I already have 1136 minutes in! This is amazing to me.

Thank you Spark People, thank you teams for all your support, thank you to those who reached out to me during my extremely stressful winter and spring … I have a new mantra … “The Best of Me is Yet to Be!”

How great it is to notice changes without noticing changes. Meaning--you didn't notice the walking and shopping, etc., until you were through with them. Then you had an AHA moment! Good for you Jackie! You have worked hard and deserve every little bit of happiness that you can get! (hugs) Noel

Jackie, you are a constant source of inspiration and positive reinforcement for me. I sometimes wonder at the difference the year made for myself since it feels like it went by so quickly and I feel I am so much healthier. After I read this, I decided I should get up from the computer and go do some PM yoga for a good sleep tonight. Best wishes for continued success and thank you for sharing your accomplishment.

I am so happy for you. I got tears in my eyes as i read this. For I remember my own struggles and I know first hand the feeling that comes over you as you realize you are on the road to a better, more healthy, fit life.
It's moments like those that keep you going to achieve even more, and to have that freedom of movement.
Hope you have an excellent holiday weekend and looking forward to summer with a renewed spring in your step.
Hugs Tisha emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jackie, Just reading your inspiring story actually brought tears to my eyes. I am beyond thrilled for the progress you've made this last year in spite of some life challenges you, and Mike have had. You're amazing and I know even better things in Life are ahead for you. I'm so glad you're on the Team and that we're friends. . .You have freedom of movement now with minimum pain and that's what I'm hoping will happen for myself. My weak area is still getting enough exercise in so now that I'm feeling better I want and need to move a lot more as I see what it's done for you. You help motivate me to do better than I've recently been doing. Way to Go Jackie!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hugs & Love,

Jill
