Whirwind days

Friday, May 24, 2013

I had 17 court hearings on Friday, four of which were overlapping in two courts. I had a 23 minute lunch and no breaks until 5:30 pm.

At 5:30 I drove home, loaded some things into the van, and took off for Michigan. I arrived at our home there at 1:30 am.

I slept in until 8 am.

I read and outlined/analyzed over 1000 pages of documents for a hearing next Tuesday. That was necessary because this is a permanent custody case, an easy one. However, three weeks ago the natural father requested that the child be place with his father. Thus a lot of investigation occurred, and a final report was issued by children services, to wit: the 1000 pages of PDF files from agency records (from another county).

We disclosed those pages to all counsel this morning (I arranged for that ahead of time).

So far, though, I think the agency will lose the battle, and the court will likely place the child with the paternal grandfather against agency recommendation. I have about 300 more pages to read and analyze.

Whoa, that's a mountain of paperwork. Oof, keep up the good work (if frustrating at times).

As a former foster parent, I feel your frustration. Just do your best. That is all you can do. God bless you for your work to help children.

I feel for you. It is frustrating to have your recommendations ignored and particularly sad that after ignoring the recommendation when the court's placement decision goes bad. Prayers for you and for this situation.
