Just Keep Moving!

Friday, May 24, 2013

That is what I told myself today. This insomnia is dragging my energy down a lot, but I am still moving. I walked Cooper over 10 miles today, ran 1.5 miles in 13 minutes and did 1000 strokes in 44 minutes on my rower. Also got a little cleaning and a load of laundry in there. I start a sleep med tonight. Hopefully that means I will get a good night's sleep tonight. This lack of sleep is for the birds.

I decided to weigh in today, instead of tomorrow. I am now at 159.5 pounds. That is not bad. I have lost nearly a third of what I need to lose to reach my 5% goal. (If I did the math right.)

My challenge from SparkCoach for today is to eat at the TOP of my calorie range. That is hard for me to do. I have gotten used to eating at the low end (or under) my calorie range. It will take some work to meet this challenge. I can do it... it is just going to take some snacking!

I feel a little guilty when I eat at the high end of my calorie range. You are an inspiration!

My sympathies with the insomnia. I have trouble with it, too. I find that if I can get myself to focus on the present, I'm more likely to fall asleep. Lately I have taken to counting my breaths, it keeps my mind off racing thoughts and I can drift off again.

Hi Chandra I was catching up on your blogs. Congratulations on getting to 159.5. That is a wonderful accomplishment. I hope the meds help your sleep. I take over the counter sleeping pills often. I really need at least 7 good hours of sleep or I tend to drag the next day and eat poorly. I hope you are doing the happy scale dance today!

I find it psychologically difficult to consistently eat at the top of my calorie range. I'm okay with having an unusual day that goes there. But on a normal day with everything controlled, I typically am eating something in the evening to get up to the bottom of the range.

Problem: I'm in maintenance. Sometimes I need to eat more to keep the weight from trending too far down.

Solution: I move the calorie range. I move it up to force myself to eat more, and I move it down to give myself permission to eat less.

The calorie range moves usually aren't very big any more. Typically I move the range up or down 100 calories at a time. The range usually stays put at least a week, and might stay put as long as two or three months. And I adapt to eating at the bottom of wherever the range happens to be.

I know, this isn't the strategy that Spark Coach wants you to follow; but it's worked well for me. Whether it works for you depends on how similar your psychology is to mine.

I love the way you just keep on keeping on. Your determination is inspiring. I have sleep problems too and sometimes sleepy-time tea helps (the Yoga brand, Celestial Seasoning doesn't do a thing for me), but not always. Hope the sleep aid does the trick for you. Btw-- I think it's awesome that you've lost a third of your goal. Congrats!

HI Hon !!! Have you ever tried to "Sleep team"?? I could NOT SLEEP FOR ANYTHING !! Than I joined the team with another Dawg telling them LOUDLY "THIS WILL NOT WORK !! NOTHING DOES !! I've been like this as LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER and it WILL NOT CHANGE !!" and figured it WOULD NOT !! WHY should it??? nothing had. SIGH !!

So I joined,,,,,,and over the 4 (well I DRAGGED IT OUT ,, to 6 weeks) and than went rhru it AGAIN,,,, and WHAT DO YOU KNOW??? I AM SLEEPING NOW !!! I used to sleep at 10 MINS a TIME !!! on a REALLY BAD NIGHT to a GOOD Night of 2 HRS,, and NOW????? 4 HRS on a BAD Night (and than its REFRESHING so it still feels GREAT !!) to 6 1/2 hrs on a GOOD NIGHT and a VERY RARE NIGHT up to TEN HRS !! That was TODAY !! WOOHOOOOOO !!! So yeah, if you join that team,,, and slowly REALLY WORK It as it says,,,, it DOEs WORK !!

I also have on top of that resorted to SOME sleep aids AT TIMES,,,,,, for my whole fam has trouble sleeping. LOL we'd rather be UP and PLAYING !! We are a FUN BUNCH !!! HAHAHA OH we are WAY TO MUCH FUN and FUNNY !!!! My POOR GrandD has such a HARD TIME with this also. SIGH I feel for her, but she's ALSO come to accept it FINALLY ,, well they BOTH have. They sleep when they can,,,,, enjoy life when they can't. That's a BIG PART of it hon,,, to ACCEPT those nights you can't sleep WITHOUT being AGGRAVATED and do something NICE/FUN for urself !! REWARD urself with doing something FUN such as listening to music you do not normally do,, or draw (we come from a LONG LINE of people who are artists) , paint,,,, read a book,,,, long,, long bubble bath,,,,, anything FOR YOU !!! maybe cook a low cal SPECIAL meal for the next night which can be reheated. HAVE FUN WITH IT !!!

If you are on puter /tv right up til bedtime,,,it IS suggested you do shut them off an hr before time. That you stop ALL exercises at least 3 or 4 hrs b4 bed,,, hopefully they are low impact even that late,,, such as a slow walk, relaxing yoga etc.

Also to be careful on what it is you eat. Nothing with ANY caffeine after 9 AM !! Notice AM !! Some Dr's say later, but it SHOULD be AM !!! For that REALLY works the BEST !! No HEAVY meals for the late meal (call it dinner, or supper,,,, LOL), but to rather have that at lunch time. If you are hungry b4 bed,, have something light, that will NOT hurt ur stomach,,, becareful if you have probs with acid reflux. If you do ADVOID ALL FOODS at least 6 hrs b4 bedtime that'll upset you. Those are a few tips.

HOPE THESE HELP YA !!!! For a DEAD TIRED DAWG,, can be HIT by a CAH !! OH NO !!! We can't HAVE THAT !!!!

Could you be exercising too much? Is that possible, and it is keeping your body at such a level that you cannot sleep?

Eat healthy in those extra calories. If we eat too little we go into starvation mode, and our body starts to hold our fat to give us energy.

But so glad for you that you have gotten down in the 150's. I hope to be there some day.
