Gearing up for tomorrow's 5K...

Friday, May 24, 2013

I am a huge geek, I love science fiction, computers, movies, books, and spreadsheets. I really really love playing with spreadsheets, maps and related things. So I used my computer and spreadsheet fu to calculate the % elevation on tomorrow's course. I color coded my segments, of course, to make everything very easy to read and understand.

I had a wonderful time creating this. I also plan to use it as the backdrop for my run scrap page. Most of the run will be relatively flat, except for the first 1/2 mile... eep!

But for me, knowing what I'm getting into is a big thing in preparing for the race, I also enter the map on my treadmill and try to "run" the course a few times. However this week has been rough with getting sick AGAIN (I think having my granddaughter in the house has something to do with this, small ones are germ factories.). I am feeling better, I just wish I could get my sinuses to stop their annoying trickle, which in turn tickles my throat, which kicks off coughing fits.

This week has been a down week mostly, barely any exercise, eating all over the map... when I'm sick and exhausted, I am generally a mess. But I am psyched for the race anyway, I am not really gonna worry about time... I'm just gonna run and have fun and run the best race I can. I will probably surprise myself.

The good news is that the temperature is supposed to be 50ish degrees with a good level of humidity and a chance of rain. I really hope it's cloudy and misty. I have my outfit planned and will look rather I was triply branded by NASCAR... wearing an Army Hat, Boston Memorial Shirt & Mizzou shorts... and completely mismatched.... especially with my striped kneesox. Mark will be there taking pix...

So the adventure, and quest for a 10K continue!

I guess facing the hills on the first half mile would be better than running them the last half mile! We are all looking forward to seeing Mark's pictures. Good luck tomorrow.

Wow, I am really impressed with your thoroughness! Even running the route on your treadmill; I never even thought of doing that. A new obsession LOL
It is hard to be exposed to all the germs that seem to be a huge part of the young grandchildren's world. I hope you feel better soon. I am sure you will have a great race, run happy! emoticon emoticon

What???!??? no snow??? Just kidding....sounds like great weather for a run. Have a good time with it - can't wait to see the colorful get up.
I admire your geeky side! I am not so much because those programs just frustrate me but I admire those that can and do.
