Do You Drink Energy Drinks? ..... Beware!

Friday, May 24, 2013

If you ever drink 'energy drinks ....... falsely named 'power drinks' you might want to know what my physician had to say recently. Beware of anything that offers a 'quick fix' .......... Usually severe repercussion will follow!) (One more reason I love water and make it my # 1 choice!)

In her office, the subject came up of drinking 'Red Bull' when you feel you are really tired and need that kick! This was her face in response ......... emoticon .... Of course, I stammered and said, "Oh .... I don't do it very much ...... just when I am burned out." ......... THEN I asked, 'How bad is it?"

There were no lectures; she simply said, "We just came back from a convention where the topic of 'power drinks and Red Bull in particular was discussed. AND both of these so called 'energy' drinks was PROVEN to have MORE acid than BATTERY ACID!! .....Not to mention the 'crash' that will follow and the taxing of your adrenal glands and excess work on the heart!! .. Again ........... emoticon ...... I vowed I would never touch another as long as I live! ........ And as the usual sound in the clinic where I work is the snap of the cap opening the pseudo energizers, I 'shared' w/ some of the gals who drink 1-2 Red-Bulls every day ............ A couple said, "I will never touch again!" ..........

As a side thought ............ I eliminated them from my diet, as well as reducing caffeine intake AND have been enjoying the BEST deep sleep nightly ......... something I know I needed was more rest ............ 8 hours last night! ....... emoticon

I must say, I have never been tempted by energy drinks. They just didn't make sense that they could ever be anything but BAD for me. I think it was b/c I had already started learning how bad sodas were, so energy drinks just looked like nuclear soda waste to me. lol.

Even before finding out I have AFib, I would never touch those things...but I know a lot of college kids live on them during finals. I think they should be outlawed!

I have never tried the drinks, I try to stay away from caffeine because of my acid reflux. I also very seldom drink caffeine coffee, it is usually water

Never had one, never will. I briefly considered trying one of those 5 hour energy drinks once, but then I thought, "I wouldn't know what to do with 5 hours of energy if I had it!" emoticon

Have never had one . . . thanks for the heads up for those who do/have.

Can't beat plain and simple, clean water.
We're so thankful to have great well water!

I did read an article recently about 'gatorade' type drinks.
The article recommended making your own,
using pure water (drop in a piece of fruit for flavoring),
a few drops of sea water and 1/4 tsp baking soda
to replenish electrolites.

I have never tried one of these although I have wanted to, I think because I was a little scared to. I guess it was a good thing that I didn't!

Energy drinks are just another name for SPEED for the new century,, very dangerous for the heart, all systems, and messes with neurons in the brain.
I believe we were created with normal bodies that require 8 hours of sleep. It is a no-brainer: go to bed earlier!

Awesome! I'm so happy you are able to cut these things from your lifestyle. I'm still battling giving up my coffee, but at least it is down.

Wonderful blog!
