Day 70 - Digging the Well

Day 70 of clean eating, about 5.5 months of fitness. I've been eating a ton of fruits and vegetables lately, but I haven't exactly seen the weight fly off so I'm going to start tracking my calories and get a sense of how much I am actually eating. I'm shooting for 1500 a day. This morning's breakfast was 600 calories, so yeah, it appears I'm eating too much, particularly dairy. It shouldn't be too hard to tweak my diet a little and ensure I'm eating the proper amount of calories. Tracking food is a lot easier when you don't have weird brands to look up and stuff. A banana is a banana, you know?

Last night was one of the hardest workouts I have ever had. I have been feeling sick and weak and tired the last couple of days, so I decided to hit that workout as hard as I possibly could. 4 minutes of planks, 30 GR push-ups, 200 overhead claps and 100 front arm raises. I pushed myself beyond what I thought I could handle. I just kept pushing and pushing. My coach calls it ''digging the well'' because I'm learning to deepen this reservoir of endurance, to last longer. It really took perseverance, because it hurt! But after the workout, I felt amazing and accomplished. And physically I have been doing a lot better ever since.

I also got a 6lb medicine ball for doing slams and other exercises. My home-made slam bag got muddy and fell apart so I had to do something to replace it, and the medicine ball has the added bonus of being useful for other activities. It's fun to add new pieces of equipment to my fitness gear.

I've been robbed of my last three hikes due to knee pain and other things out of my control. I have one scheduled for Monday and we'll probably also strike out on our own on Sunday. I'm dying to get out there again. I haven't even used my new Camelbak yet, and my hiking shoes still need breaking in.

Finally, I've been trying to take steps to really stay on track with work lately. Grants are hard to come by these days. I installed Leechblock on all my computers to force myself to work. It's amazing how creative I get about wasting time when the internet is not an option. I am still really struggling with focus, but this will help. It has already helped.

    Sounds like you are sticking to your plan. Congrats!!! I'd not be able to do the push-ups because of my knees but those overhead claps & front arm raises sound interesting. When I use my stability ball, I can actually do 100 sit-ups. Hey, you have inspired me. I may have to pull that out this weekend (since I'm not working) and do those sit-ups! It will be the next step in my *Spark* Restart program. Taking small steps - daily blogging, daily nutrition tracker & visiting 3 Spark teams. Only slipped up twice since I restarted about a month ago.

    Good luck with those grants! I'm being filmed today with our Executive Director by CVS Caremark. They hold an auction and I desperately need a Spanish-speaking person on the Hope Bus...So the video will be the auction item. I guess attendees bid on the needs of an organization. Hoping to get money for two part-time positions and culturally appropriate materials.
