Well it had to happen,

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Chica finally got up close and personal with a skunk. I think it was not a full on shot she must
have been far enough away that the shot got her near her jaw.. and I have to say if the shot tastes as bad as it smells it was no wonder she was frothing at the mouth trying to get rid of it.
It took a lot of water to rinse her mouth out but I bet the taste lingered on.
I had a mousse type of shampoo that I got from the vet and I rubbed that in pretty good and it
seems to have done the job just a faint smell lingers and what an unpleasant smell it is.
The good thing is the weather has been warm enough for me to have doors and windows open..hope she has learned to stay away from animals with a white stripe down their back.

Fat chance!!!

When I was in High School we had two skunks make a home under the house. Our dogs got hit a few times, but not too bad. But the worst was when the dogs found out where the skunks were and started barking at them through the floor, heating ducts. Both skunks sprayed *under* the house. There was nothing we could do about it, but wait for the stink to go away.

Ok try not to laugh to hard....but I was
2/3 the way thru reading this before
I realized you were talking about a
dog.

My sisters dog got sprayed and then got
into their house. They had to live at
a motel for a few days.

I am glad your liked the inspiration message I had on
my blog. It was right on target.

I have put to follow your blog.

Your day will get better and after a few months
you will be remembering this skunk with good aim
and laugh. Poor dog.

Take care

This *has* happened to my dog! Three times in two weeks. We bathed him with Cascade -- it was the only thing that worked.....

Thanks for visiting my blog! Poor, poor baby! I'll bet she was so confused about why her smell had changed. Recently, my daughter's family was leaving for school & they came upon a skunk. It sprayed them & mainly hit my granddaughters' backpack. Then, he ran under the house. My sin-in-law went home all day to open up the windows. My daughter said she knows my granddaughter's teacher Febreezed her backpack all day & when people would go into my daughter's classroom, they would comment on smelling skunk. emoticon

Poor Chica! Curiosity doesn't just get to CATS! Glad you found something that worked to combat the smell.

For two weeks I house-sat for a family who's dog would go out looking for skunks. The very first morning as I was leaving the house to go to work and called the dog to be put in the house for the day was very memorable. The dog came around the corner of the house with his head all covered in dirt--also took a head shot. I saw him first and then the wave of scent hit me. Whoa!!!! Dog in the detached garage for the day. After work I had some friends over to help shampoo the dog with de-smeller. Unfortunately nothing but time really gets rid of the smell. The entire two weeks the house smelled faintly of Pepe le pew! For most dogs all it takes is one good shot. They never go back.

This happened to my Kita once. I think after that she was pretty smart about not messing with the black and white kitties!

Hope she gets over her episode soon. I too am glad we don't have skunks in the UK. It's a shame they have that defense, cos they look quite cute.
