Those Bothersome Things

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

I was a little stressed because I needed to make a vest for a great-grandson and I only had a few days to get it done. This afternoon I got busy and got it done. I suspect it may be a little large, but I made it the size his mother wanted and I expect it will look fine under the suit jacket. He is five years old and will be in a wedding on Saturday. I doubt non sewers realize just how much time it takes to sew a garment and even though this was a relatively simple project it did take me about 4 hours to sew. I always tell people when they ask if I do alterations that I am basically a quilter and you don't ask Picasso to paint your garage! I HATE alterations!!

I enjoy quilting, too, although I don't have much time for it now. Hand quilting is my favorite. I want to do a white-on-white quilt some day soon.

I love this..... you don't ask Picasso to paint your garage!

I'm sure he will be very handsome in his new vest! Good job!!

I agree, I'd rather start from scratch than alter something! I am a good seamstress but it's not how I like to spend my time. When asked if I sew for people; my reply is they couldn't afford me. No one really wants to pay you for your time! I do occasionally, like you, sew for those I love. That's totally different!

I envy you. I don't do any sewing except sewing on buttons.
I'm sure the vest is fine.

I enjoy making clothes....for myself only. How's that for selfish?

I am passionate about my quilting but will put off shortening a pair of slacks indefinitely. Always tell people I don't do garments. It wasn't always like that. Back in the double knit days I made tons of clothes including velvet bridesmaid's dresses for a winter wedding.
