New member joining the family soon

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Just to let you all know, I've been hovering right around 130. I haven't gone down, but nor have I gained. To be honest, I've changed very little since I found out about the interference of the iron and the thyroid meds. I don't think it will make that amount of difference at this time. Not gaining tells me, what I'm doing is correct. Right now I'm about what I was in high school, so I continue to feel good about myself.

Now for the B-I-G news! Bob and I did a search on Petfinder. We both ended up picking out a little boy called Hercules. He is a mix of smooth haired doxie and long haired chi. We surprised each other that we liked the same dog. Anyway, Bob called about him today and found no one had applied for him. The worker at the shelter told him if we got an application in right away, we would be first to be considered to adopt. Bob got it completed and sent to them right away. Late this afternoon we got a call back and did phone interviews and were told he's ours. He is getting neutered tomorrow, so we can get him anytime after that. I'm not sure how long Bob will be able to wait to get him home. He's really excited and I think this new guy will help him past Rex better than anything else. I certainly didn't expect he would decide he wanted another so soon, but he's always filled with surprises! When he kept returning to Hercules picture, I asked him if he wanted him. He got this huge smile and simply nodded yes. This is the first he has smiled since Sunday. I don't blame him. Rexie was his pal and he has really missed playing and walking with him.

As for me, besides working on keeping on par and fulfilling my goals, I decided to enter another contest. This time it was to tell what had made my father so special in 1000 words or less. I wrote it like a story of him recalling the important things we did throughout our time together. I reached 997 word count! (It still takes me aback whenever I think about it, but I have already outlived him by 3 1/2 years.) This one is being sponsored by Tribute.com. The grand prize winner will receive a free eternal tribute to their father that will be the feature on their site Father's Day week plus $500 to be donated to the charity of their choice. There will be six runners up who will also get a free eternal tribute to their father with a feature of it on the web site at some point plus $100 for a charity of their choice. I'm excited about the money for charities. Even if I don't win, it will be nice to know $1100 will be going to charities because of someone's love for their father and their writing about that. The deadline is Friday and notification will be June 3rd. I'll let you know if I have a positive response. Also, if anyone is interested in reading it, let me know. I've never written like this before. I did the story about my mother, but it wasn't that long and I never did it for anything other than myself. I would love to hear from others of you who write and enter contests as I have. I had never done this before, so we'll see if I do any good. I appreciate everyone who took the time to read and comment on my short story. It was so fun to write! There is another contest coming up for telling your love story. That is something I love talking about!

Speaking of love stories, I enjoy hearing how others met their significant others and fell in love. Bob and I first met on-line. Has anyone else met their spouse/partner that way? I know there is a lot of negative thoughts about such meetings, but I believe if you are careful to first meet with other people you know and have the other person checked out, you should be OK. I would also recommend "talking" to the person via email for several months before meeting. Bob and I will have been married for 13 years in August.

Peace Love Cure
Ev

Yep, Herc is a keeper for sure. What big beautiful eyes with loads of expression. His crazy wild hair speaks to who he is as well. So happy for you to fill the hole that Rex created when he left. Hugs!

I lost my precious JoyJoy in November at 18 years, and it broke my heart. I still have Puddles who is 12 and at 91 pounds, on her way to old age. Eyes and ears are already giving her trouble. I don't want to go thru loss again, so soon, hurts to much.

If you would allow me, I would love to read your story about your dad, and how do you find these contests? I write and would love to do something like you did about my father, well I am sure that one is over but I do love to write. I hope that you win

emoticon on the new addition to the family, you have given him a second chance at life.

He's absolutely adorable! Good for you guys.

Yes, I and my DH met on Match.com. We've been married nearly 9 yrs. (June 12th) and together nearly 10. We are soooo compatible. It certainly worked for us- altho we "knew" with in just a few weeks. He asked me a month after we met!!! Seems to have been a good match. LOL. At least we think so. :)

I met my husband at a dance club. He was at the bar and headed towards me, as I sat with a bunch of friends. I told my friends that the man coming to our table was the one I was going to marry, I just had that feeling. We married in a year and God willing will be married 52 years this Sept.

I saw the ring I wanted in a magazine when I was l2, so we took the picture I saved to the jeweler and he made the set.

Hercules looks a little sad. I bet he will be sporting a big smile when he moves into his new home with his loving mom and dad! Give him a kiss from me! Best of luck with the contest. What a lovely way to honor your dad.

It's been fun to read the stories of how people met their spouses. Mine worked for me very briefly 24 years ago. We did not like one another at all and he transferred elsewhere in the organization. Years later we bumped into each other at a conference, seated next to one another in a very boring session. He passed me a note asking me if I wanted to sneak out at the break and go have dessert and coffee. We celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary Saturday!

Hi Ev. Your adopted son is so cute. We have a part Maine Coon cat who will be 4 years old on 7/4. He is both a joy and a trial.

Congrats on your 13th in August. We will be celebrating our 24th on August 9th. We met at Godfather's Pizza. He was there with shipmates and I was there with a few girlfriends. We met at the salad bar of all places! He asked if they could join us, I asked my girlfriends and they said yes. Both DH and I had both had really bad prior marriages and weren't looking for another relationship. God had other plans. A year later we were married and the rest is living history. For us anyway.

DH and I were both working for Prudential Ins. Co. I worked in the west building, DH in the south. The company had a good size lot, and a soft ball field. DH and I ended up on the same team, and we played softball together for two years. He asked me out, and that was it! 30 yrs. in November.
