We just returned from a day trip to Mexico so I could get my hair cut and styled. They have a shop over there that works wonders--I've never seen one I didn't like. Since a bad hair day can totally destroy my focus on getting healthy, I decided it was a priority, so we bought extra car insurance to drive over (most people park at the border and walk across, but walking is still difficult for me). I'm glad I took my cane, as there was a lot of walking, even though we were able to park right in front of the building where the salon is located. It's situated at the far end of a plaza, so there was a bit of walking there, and later more walking to the restaurant for a wonderful (if not totally healthy) Mexican dinner. I had shrimp chimichungas with beans and rice; only ate a few spoons of the beans and rice though--the shrimp chimmys (3 skinny ones) were loaded with shrimp and very filling. I didn't even have a margarita with my dinner--just took a few sips of my husband's and drank water instead. So I made an effort to be somewhat healthy. Still, we don't go there very often (it's been 3 years since our last trip across the border), and we love this restaurant. So I splurged on the calories. Luckily I had a very light breakfast and will just have some fruit and veggies later on as a late lunch. Most of the seasonal tourists have left for the summer, so we had the marketplace to ourselves. Still, I can't do a lot of walking, so we didn't shop much today. We'll go back next week when I go to the dentist there. Won't be stopping at the restaurant then, but I will shop a little. And I was able to come home with a new haircut--a totally new look. With any luck, I'll be able to maintain this look myself and that should help my self-esteem tremendously. Maybe now I can keep my focus on getting healthy.
