A new look

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

We just returned from a day trip to Mexico so I could get my hair cut and styled. They have a shop over there that works wonders--I've never seen one I didn't like. Since a bad hair day can totally destroy my focus on getting healthy, I decided it was a priority, so we bought extra car insurance to drive over (most people park at the border and walk across, but walking is still difficult for me). I'm glad I took my cane, as there was a lot of walking, even though we were able to park right in front of the building where the salon is located. It's situated at the far end of a plaza, so there was a bit of walking there, and later more walking to the restaurant for a wonderful (if not totally healthy) Mexican dinner. I had shrimp chimichungas with beans and rice; only ate a few spoons of the beans and rice though--the shrimp chimmys (3 skinny ones) were loaded with shrimp and very filling. I didn't even have a margarita with my dinner--just took a few sips of my husband's and drank water instead. So I made an effort to be somewhat healthy. Still, we don't go there very often (it's been 3 years since our last trip across the border), and we love this restaurant. So I splurged on the calories. Luckily I had a very light breakfast and will just have some fruit and veggies later on as a late lunch. Most of the seasonal tourists have left for the summer, so we had the marketplace to ourselves. Still, I can't do a lot of walking, so we didn't shop much today. We'll go back next week when I go to the dentist there. Won't be stopping at the restaurant then, but I will shop a little. And I was able to come home with a new haircut--a totally new look. With any luck, I'll be able to maintain this look myself and that should help my self-esteem tremendously. Maybe now I can keep my focus on getting healthy.

Good for you for getting a new hairdo that makes you feel and look good. You are brave to cross over the Border as I'd be scared being there. . .I guess I've read too many horror stories there with the drug war going on. I look forward to seeing a new picture of you and see how your hair turned out. Enjoy Memorial weekend. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Cherie, thought you might post a picture with your blog...hint, hint! Glad you got a cut you like and that it will most likely be easy care. That's the best! I'm getting a cut next week. Have been trying to let it grow a little to get the "ear cutouts" grown out a bit. Was tired of having it so very short, but it's getting warmer and I'm not one for hot hair on my neck! You did a great job on the food selection, too! emoticon

So happy you have a new hairdo that is easy to keep. Just had mine cut last Saturday, and boy does it make a difference! Sounds like you didn't actually blow your diet too badly on one meal. Way to go! And you did at least get in a little walking! Sending hugs your way. Sharon

Well? Where is that beautiful new picture? I was wondering what you would decide. You are very right--it is hard to focus on one thing is you have a few things that are taking away that main focus. So now you have a great hair cut--gives you one less thing to worry about. I wish you the very best of luck in all you want to do! (hugs))

emoticon So happy for you, and I think the occasion warranted a Splurge Meal - especially since you "Splurged" in moderation!! I bet you will be Walking more each time you go to Mexico.
