DH's hospital stay

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Sat. DH went to the hospital. He was lethargic and confused. More stroke? Hoped not!

Now we know it was a urinary infection. Infection is gone now after antibiotic and 5 days in the hospital.

They suggest rehab now. I heartily agree. It is a chance for daily PT/OT . He needs that big time!

Chris, so glad to hear your DH didn't have a stroke and it is good news that he is in rehab right now so you can get some rest and give you some time to be able to get ready to care for him again when he returns home. He is so lucky to have you by his side. You are so remarkable. God Bless you

Its emoticon that it was not a stroke, but rehab would still be good for him. He can learn things to be more helpful to himself without straining your limited resources all the time. Plus you genuinely need the respite from the daily caregiving you've had to do. You can inflow some care for you and possibly find ways to get things set up about house aides and so on when he comes home. I called our mayor's office of disabled people program and they are now working with me to get someone to come in that I only have to pay 1 dollar and hour and it is only 4 hours a week. I can definitely work with that. All I need is for her to do the cleaning of the bathroom and kitchen and dust and vaccuming. My DH will still be doing the mopping of the floors shopping and laundry. Maybe your Mayors office will have some program to help you too. My social worker called them for me after we discovered that the glaucoma has messed up DH's eyesite to the point he actually can't see if something is dirty, and so often it is as dirty as it was before he "cleaned" it.
Anyway checking the Mayoral department of elderly, senior, or disabled of your city 's office might just turn up some leads. Hope this helps emoticon

Hopefully being in rehab will be helpful for him, reminding him of how good he has it living at home with you and it will encourage him to be more involved in his life and recovery. I also hope it will give you a much deserved break where you can spend more time focusing only on yourself and your needs.

Chris - that DOES sound like a really good idea. I would suggest that you could also use the time to get some rest and maybe even recharge your batteries. I have been missing you.
