Calorie Fairies!

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

The good ol' calories in vs. calories out. It is way easier said then done!

Have you ever dealt with someone who was lets say the calorie fairy? The bring their joy of high calorie foods for all to share. Well I have noticed that I have a few of them at work including my boss. I have been graced with their gifts of food, food, and more food! I really appreciate their sincere and kindness, but couldn't they grace me with some fruits and vegetables instead of fudge and fries?!

This has really got me thinking about how I can do two things: still build rapport with my co workers and upper management (I am fairly new to the position) and be able to continue eating a healthy lifestyle. Some ideas I have include: visits to their office/cubicle instead of meeting the breakroom or during parties, bring healthy options for all to share (fruit kebabs!), or thanking them for the thought but not actually consuming the treats!

I am completely open to ideas!

I think it's very important that you start a healthy reputation with your coworkers and your in a great position for this because you are fairly new! If you get in a habit of bringing healthy snacks, foods, etc. then you are showing others that you consume healthy foods. They will be less likely to offer you unhealthy foods. Even if they do give you something, you will be in a better situation to refuse or not eat the unhealthy foods.

Workplaces are difficult but I always say "Lead by example" and soon, many of your coworkers will also convert to healthier foods during potluck and meetings just because they know someone that doesn't eat the unhealthy stuff! Keeping a bowl of almonds on your desk is a great start! This speaks volumes :)

    Have a great week!
