In memory of Rev.Dr. Martin Luther King

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

My family and I standing in front of where the great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King was shot. (Oldest daughter not present)

I make sure my own children know their history. Field trips may help, but you just can't beat teaching them yourself. This was taken Spring Break of 2012 in March.

Beautiful family...and yes, teaching history to our children at home where they can ask questions and get more into the story of our nation is the best way to go...school should serve as a supplement of what they have learned at home...

I prefer that my child hear it from me first. I feel like he is more prepared for school that way, and I wouldn't miss those conversations for anything.

History is important and American history needs to be taught too. Children now days learn about other countries and only learn negative things about this country and how bad it is but all countries have their good and bad.

    What an inspirational photo!

Its so important to recognize and educate our children about our shared history. I am a teacher and teach Dr. King's work in every class. It still shocks me when kids come in to class and know so little about the Civil Rights Movement. Your kids are lucky to have you!

Best,
