This house puts me into the same symptoms that I had in a High School I attended two years--after re-zoning to a formerly Black-dominated High School. I realize now, the second time around with these problems but in a different setting, a lot about the cultural differences between some sets of people on this planet.
Both places kept my brain a bit foggy, my short-term memory short-circuited, and my body uncomfortable. The foggy brain and low energy kept my from learning as well as I was accustomed to being able to. Of course, people all attribute emotions, growing-up, hormones, and such, to changes in abilities like that. I had very little control over my diet--and a meager diet it was-- while a child; now, living in this house, I keep searching for something to get me going--and my instincts have been sending me to carbs.
I finally bought 6 loaves of low-sodium Exekiel bread and have them in the freezer. This is a good food for my body. I add some water and, at times, local honey, and I can eat to keep my mind awake without totally blowing my health away. Next month, I'll get some nutritional yeast and put some coconut oil with it for a more complete and longer-lasting meal. I found out that olive oil is thermogenic; I knew flax seed oil is, though the whole flax seed, which absorbs a lot of the toxic estrogen-like chemicals does not let the oil into digestion. I have had so much problem with heat exhaustion, but expect to do better by laying off these oils during the warm months.
Most days, I eat wild greens--greens I scatter seed from, in the Fall: mostly lamb's-quarters and thistles. My early peas got trimmed by a rabbit and my lettuce didn't come up well. A lot of early crops around here did not come up well--weather affects us. I have some green beans started, and some acorn and crookneck squashes.
The symptoms I have here, and had in High School, seem to be related to an iodine deficiency, though I take measures to ensure iodine intake. So, I think that the toxins present are binding the iodine. It only takes about 20 minutes away from the house to get my thinking back, my breathing deep, and my energy up a bit.
So, the cheaper/illegal pesticides--or refuse from meth labs, or whatever is in these places--literally change my options enough to develop a different culture in my life-style as I am in the places. A big tip-off is how both places make my lower legs itchy. In High School, I scratched infection into one leg--just above the ankle. Here, I use some salves and beta-carotene and Vit C-- things that I rarely had access to as a minor/dependant.
My outside shed gets very humid, driving me back into the house whenever it is not caustic enough to keep my nose raw--with minor morning nose-bleeds. THe lady who was here before got really bad health--thought she was dying--got better once she moved into some fairly new apartments--worse again when her money reduced and she went into goverment housing--something this house was supposed to help me avoid having to be in again--and so I could have a yard and garden and herbs and fruit trees. I have these, but not the energy to keep them up well.
Anyway, the outside "shed", or Summer kitchen, condenses moisture on my synthetic bedding, gets my cotton betting damp, keeps my lungs too full of the fungi and molds that grow in moisture, and such. The car leaks water when it rains, does not have enough gaskets left, around the doors, to keep the moist air out, so the same thing happens in it--though it is large enough for me to sleep in, and I did, often, as I got the shed put together over the course of a couple of months.
My back is much better, sleeping in the house on my futon. I have a metal bed frame that goes down to twin size; I need to get it in the shed. Since it is warm now, I think I will stay outdoors a lot--won't need much bedding, so it won't be all clammy-damp on me.
