(One in a series of posts related to decisions we must make.)
You must decide today whether you will be an OPTIMIST.
The OPTIMIST chooses to see the world in a positive light.
Beyond just the hackneyed "glass half full" phrase, the optimist believes that, in all likelihood, things will work out and that oneís MINDSET has much to do with how things work out.
The optimist believes that despite the current state of affairs, there is HOPE for the future.
Today might not be such a great day - stuff happens - but the optimist knows there's every reason to believe that he will be able to ford any stream that blocks his path.
The optimist chooses to view the future as what IS POSSIBLE rather than DREADING THE INEVITABLE.
Being OPTIMISTIC doesn't mean being UNREALISTIC.
Rather the optimist clearly sees the current situation and possible paths forward and thinks that a better, more positive future is possible. The optimist focuses on the POSSIBILITIES rather than the IMPEDIMENTS to moving forward.
The optimist sees that doubt and despair don't improve things.
Let me repeat that: The optimist sees that doubt and despair DONíT improve things.
While the pessimist sits by and expects things to fail, expects the worst and is unsurprised when the worst happens, the optimist recognizes that things donít have to fail and the worst doesnít have to happen. The optimist, too, sees that there is CONSIDERABLE STRENGTH in DECIDING to FOCUS on what CAN be done rather than what canít.
The optimist recognizes that he is far stronger than he thinks.
The optimist trusts that POSITIVITY in the face of a challenge will provide him with strength.
The optimist knows that most of the time things work out.
And for the times when they donít... the optimist is heartened by the fact they arenít the norm. He knows that life isnít always sunny and bright but it isnít always dreary and gray either.
Todayís the day to decide to be an optimist.
Todayís the day to stop looking at everything as an unclimbable mountain.
Todayís the day to realize that challenges CAN be overcome and goals CAN be reached.
Decide to be an optimist.
And make it a great day!
