THIS WEEK'S MEAL / MENU PLAN:
This week be sure to inventory your freezer, rotate stock using the oldest first (FIFO), and make new room in your freezer by menu planning from it and cooking from it, before next Monday. ALDIs is closed for the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, 5/27. On Tuesday morning 5/28, I'm going to be there with bells on to get marked down meat with close expiry dates. I plan to cook half Wed - Fri, & freeze the other half. I usually brown the ground beef in bulk with onion, and freeze in freezer bags laid flat to save space. My local ALDIs always has fantastic sales of meat, pennies on the dollar, the first morning they're open after being closed for a holiday. When it's not pennies on the dollar, it's 4-6 dollars off ea pkg. That's alot, that's a very deep discount!, when the pkgs are small to begin with. For example I can get a $5 pkg of steak for $4 off; $8 package of 93% ground beef for 4-6 dollars off, also chicken etc. Usually there are a wide variety of meats and poultry available for what amounts to half off or less - sometimes much much less as in the steak for a dollar. I once got Jennie-O lean turkey sausage for 25 cents per pkg; when I cooked it it was so lean there was no fat to drain off. I'm NOT a fan of sausage, but was impressed with it plus it made a great substitution both frugally and taste-wise, for ground beef in spaghetti. So get your personal plans in place, re $ and freezer space, eat from home and eat from the freezer this week, and schedule a Tuesday morning ALDIs run in your weekly chores plan.
MY BARGAINS & MEAL PLAN:
I got a family size pkg of boneless chicken breast this Sat at ALDIs for $1.69 lb (on sale til tomorrow). Since I'm single it will make MANY meals for me. Also some stoplight peppers (pkg of 3, 1 ea of yellow, orange, & red) for $1.99, green peppers pkg of 3 for $1.99, and more blackberries for$1.69. With the fajita peppers and chicken on sale, looks like Mexican this week. I'll throw in a day or two of American, LOL. Yum I could eat TexMex every day: Fajitas, quesadillas, and peppers stuffed with beans & rice; served with salad, guacamole, and jalapeño boats. I am soaking some black beans, and plan to soak & cook some pintos, and will make rice. I have been extremely tired lately and dried beans are a good source of iron. I'm also putting raisins (for iron) in my oatmeal. Iron also is necessary to keep your hair from thinning ladies (there's more to it than just thyroid). I have a pound of super-sale ground beef left in the freezer, and plan to use that this week to make tacos. I have some potatoes bought frugally to use up this week, as well.
