Facing Challenges

Monday, May 20, 2013

Store shelves have been "WIPED OUT"
The BOTTOM LINE is Venezuelan officials will confront the toilet paper shortage by importing 50 million rolls to meet demand.
INTESTINAL FORTITUDE: Venezuela’s monthly demand for toilet paper is about 125 million rolls a month, so when available folks now stock up.
While I did snicker when I first heard about the crisis in Venezuela, it is no laughing matter when basic needs are not met.
I feel for the Venezuelans.

When facing challenges, we do have a choice. We can choose to bury our head in the sand and still run the risk of getting our posterior hit. Or we can choose to face it head on.
Lately resignation has been seeping in. We are in transition, hubby is turning 65 and things are changing.
We have tried to be proactive, but curve balls are still thrown our way. The stress has lead to my going through the motions and being less mindful. Seeking comfort in food. There even have been times that I forgot to take my medication because my mind is elsewhere.

Worry does not solve anything, but it creeps to the forefront.
~INDYGIRL's blog spoke to me.

"Sigh. Life goes on. The lesson is that life does indeed go on and so should my healthy habits. I should not use things as excuses....The best medicine for me is nurturing my body and mind through things, like a good mother would her child."

Ah... to nurture. When I take care of myself it is easier to face the challenges.

This blog really speaks to me. I turn 64 in just a few days and my wife will be retiring next year. All the calculations and decisions we are making just adds the stress to life. This was a spot on blog.

Remember - Stress is caused by focusing on the problem - relief comes from focusing on the solution.

I hear you loud and clear. Maybe if we had applied this philosophy from the get go we wouldn't have to be learning new habits now. Our generation was more into fitting the mold rather than achieving a healthy lifestyle. Ahhhh, but here we are - in the right now and we are trying to do the right things.

Good food choices and moving our bodies is what everyone needs. When has our childhood obesity ever been such an issue? Our culture is suffering from bad food and inactivity. It seems that a lot of communities are tackling these issues together. One day at a time my friend. You and your family have made wonderful changes. How about a family walk at night after dinner cleanup?

I know how you feel. My DH will turn 65 this year, too. So many decisions to make and so many changes in our lives. You are so right when you say when you take care of yourself it is easier to face the challenges. Keep up the good work and hope you have a great week!
