Running By the River

I actually had a pretty good weekend. I am glad I didn't let my grumps get the best of me- especially because Saturday was my 6-year anniversary with my boyfriend which I definitely thought would depress me for the whole weekend. Last year I made him a beautiful card and got him an amazing gift which he never used, so this year I said eff it and didn't do a damn thing. He did remember it was our anniversary- I am not sure how, perhaps a friend tipped him off... anyway, he said happy anniversary, but that was it. I just said "yeah" or something and went about my day. Whatever, I guess it's just another day, right? Like a birthday.

We did go see Star Trek which was INCREDIBLE and I cannot WAIT to see it a bunch more times. I also made muffins for today since I have been catching hell all week for 3 muffinless Mondays in a row.

I didn't work out Saturday, but Sunday I was still kind of sore and tight, so I decided to go for a moderate run/walk. I mentioned it to boyfriend and he said, "OK! I know a great place we can go!" I was thinking to myself, okay, that wasn't an invitation... but whatever. We went to a nearby state park and ran along a river. It was actually very beautiful, and the trail was nice and squishy and completely shaded by surrounding trees. I did get slightly snacked on by some mosquitoes, but it's a river, what do you want?

We did one minute intervals- one minute running, one minute walking. I had intended to just lightly jog, but I felt really good and had some new music (Kid Rock is finally on iTunes!) so I ended up running pretty hard during each interval. There were signs on the trail that let us know we went 4 miles. It felt great. Felt even greater afterwards to stretch. I really loosened up and a lot of things cracked and popped when I stretched. I had been really tight in my back and hips and some running was just what I needed, apparently!

Oh, and couch potato boyfriend kept up really well actually. He seemed to be suffering greatly but he didn't complain. He only needed one extra walk break the whole time, which I thought was really good. I was impressed.

It was a very pleasant workout- back to CrossFit tonight for an AMRAP of burpees, pull-ups, box jumps and situps!

    Running is always much nicer somewhere scenic. We have a trail here that's 2.25 miles one way along the river and it's so pretty I barely notice the extremely menacing hills anymore...

    Sounds pretty cool and intervals are always good for working out kinks and getting your brain & body re-invigorated.

We saw Star Trek yesterday as well....it was freaking awesome! I want to see Khan come back!

    Your run sounds great and like just what you needed for your soreness. Some guys don't get it when it comes to anniversaries and such. Sometimes you have to teach them.

I laughed out loud and then shared with my daughter, who also laughed, the sentence that said you were "slightly snacked on" by mosquitoes at the river! Hahaha!! Too funny!

    It kinda makes me sad to hear about your anniversary. My husband and I have been together 7 yrs but married only 6 months ago. We still celebrate our anniversary of getting together and make a whole weekend of it with dinner out, lingerie, sexy time, romantic stuff. He gets me flowers and nice wine, and cleans the whole house. Now we have two anniversaries, LOL. Well at least you went on a nice run together and saw Star Trek. We saw it this weekend too. It rocked!!

I'm easing back into running. It always loosens me up too.

    Sounds like a lovely trail to run. For some reason where I live, in the Natural State, (at least centrally) they want to pave the trails. How is that natural? Hmmmm.

YAY For MUFFIN MONDAY- I missed it to and I dont even get to chow down on them :) I must have been thinking about that this weekened because I pinned about 10 different muffin/bread recipies.
