I started following Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live program on April 20th.
I've lost 12.6 pounds.
And it took me the other three and half months in 2013 to lose four and a half pounds.
The initial six-week plan is to get close to:
- a pound of raw veggies and greens
- a pound of cooked veggies
- at least four fruits
- a cup of beans or more
- and some nuts and seeds
- no dairy, no meats, no grains, no starchy veggies, no oil
The less strict version allows one serving of the off-limits foods.
I went cold turkey, and the first 3 days were tough because of the carb cravings. After that, they were gone. NO CRAVINGS. Still none after a month. I do not dream of the day I can go back to eating breads and cookies and cake.
I was concerned that I'd be tired or weak, or feel out of it at work, but that has not happened. I feel good.
I am, for the first time in my life, aware of when I am physically hungry. I carry a protein bar in my purse in case I get uncomfortably hungry.
On the down side…?
I am really tired of salad. I've never been a fan, but I'd found a bunch of foods to put in so the salads taste good. I think I'll never be one of those people who anticipates a yummy salad.
Also, all that peeling and chopping and other food prep is a nuisance. I have other things I'd rather do with my time. So I take as many shortcuts as I can find. Bagged salads and veggies are more expensive, but worth it to me.
Overall all, this program is working for me, and I thank my Sparks Friends who encouraged me to try!
You should try too. What do you have to lose?
