This is the first time I have ever blogged, so bare with me!
I tried several different diets and they all have failed so far.
So now I am seeing Dr. Lester and he is prescribing me appetite suppressants and keeping me at 500 calories per day. The first 3 days were the hardest, meat and eggs only! Yesterday was day 4 and it was a relief to finally be able to eat an apple since I LOVE fruit!
I can only eat fruit 2 times a week, and I have to count the calories for it.
I have also NEVER counted calories and I'm finding it to be fun and educational!
I am drinking 1 gallon of water a day (trying to), with the many, many trips to the bathroom. Mostly drinking Powerade Zero and Diet green tea since there is no sugar and no calories.
When I weighed myself this morning I was pleased to see I had lost 7 lbs. already!!!
I am walking at least once, sometimes twice a day for 30-40 minutes. Soon I will be able to step it up and do more and more!
I am looking forward to being healthy and skinny again! Ready to have a rocking summer body!

CONGRATULATIONS on such a terrific weight loss...AND on your first blog entry! You sound so strong and committed, willing to keep track of your food intake and exercise - well done!! (just had to haul out Spark's graphic for that :) My one concern is shared by the other posters - 500 calories might be too low. I've read that we shouldn't go under 1,200 calories for a reducing diet, so you might want to give that some more thought. Meanwhile, you've got a wonderful, positive, proactive attitude - keep up the good work!

on posting your first blog, it is not as easy as it sounds.
500 calories a day; is it possible you misunderstood, maybe 1500 a day and lowing it as time goes on. Whenever any of us starts a new diet, especially one as restrictive as this one, you will lose a lot by the 4 day; but it can be a trifle difficult to keep that lose up each week.

I agree. 500 calories a day is really really really low. At that level, your body will go into starvation mode soon and stop burning calories. Also, your body will start to burn muscle protein for fuel, which is why your doctor has you on a high protein diet, but that can only slow down the process.
I highly highly highly suggest you see another doctor and get a second opinion. For women, you really shouldn't cut calories less than about 1200 a day - to keep your metabolism and brain functioning! Even then, your body will consume some muscle, so it is still good to keep the 'lean' protein levels high.
Aiming for 1-2 lbs a week weight loss is what the experts recommend. That is a 3500-7000 weekly calorie deficit. So if you (like most women) burn around 2000 calories a day (and I think you would with all of your walking), you should aim for eating between 1000-1500 calories (1000-500 daily deficit). You could add some more exercise so that you burn 2200 calories a day, and eat 1200 calories a day for around a 2 lb per week weight loss. This is my personal scheme, and it working very well for me :-)
