The Challenge is Afoot

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Today I started my bike-all-the-city-streets challenge. I had wanted to do it last year so I could say I did it before I turned 60. But, it didn't happen. I got a lot done but not all the streets.

This year I am starting more than a month early and, assuming I'm successful, I will have accomplished it when I am 60.

Today I did a section not too far from our house but one I didn't get to last year. I am smarter about the streets this year. Last year I found myself redoing streets because where I live doesn't change and I really only have access to my house going west and south.

My surgery foot was tired after biking (today was only 35 minutes) but I did okay. I was a bit worried because I don't have hand brakes and I wasn't sure my foot could handle a sudden stop but the one I had to do today went fine. Apparently worried about being hit by a car fires different neurons than worried about just one part of me. My stamina needs work so these first few outings will be shorter than later ones.

Good for you Janet! You are smart and careful, but you aren't wasting any time getting back into life after surgery. I applaud you!

How many city streets are there for you to conquer?

Yay Janet! You're going to do it this year!

Does your bike have an odometer? I'm curious how those streets are going to add up in miles...if you don't, you could always do the map my route thing and see how you improve in terms of miles as well as time...after all, you're going to have to be able to top yourself in some way next year!

Hey, you got 35 minutes in. I wouldn't dare ride a bike on some of the streets around me. I'd be a dead person, if it wasn't due to a speeding motorist it would be because I lost control of my bicycle on a downhill run. I love the idea though. Maybe I need a rack and my grandkids and I can go to a park and ride our bikes while Erik's at transitional therapy.
