Thought and Prayer for Sunday, May 19, 2013
Sunday, May 19, 2013
There are so many times we hear people say they just don’t want to go somewhere or do something but they feel they have to. We hear them complain wishing they were somewhere else other than where they are. These people leave half-hearted lives. They don’t put their all into what they do and make the decision to enjoy the moment right now. They are always wishing for better things and better days. We need to be sure we don’t have that attitude about anything, especially about serving God.
Joshua 24:14 “So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us not to live half-hearted lives. We want to begin this day wholeheartedly serving You. Help us to recognize what things and people are distracting us causing us to wish we were somewhere else. Help us to focus on You and the moment we are in so we can better serve You and help others. Help us to put away forever the idols we worship that keep us from wholeheartedly serving You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we are half-heartedly doing something, we aren’t giving it our all.
Doing something while wishing we were somewhere else shows others we aren’t able to completely focus.
God wants us to give Him 100% of all we are 100% of the time. When we give only 99%, there is 1% that is not doing what He desires us to do.
We need to be aware of our thoughts and actions today so that we are living wholeheartedly for God.
People can tell when we are truly living for God in our actions, in our words, in our whole life.
Our whole lives should shine brightly for God.
Luke 11:36 “If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” (NLT)
