Saturday - what do you do with a wavy quilt

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Argh.... I went outside my comfort zone and did a design which was very complicated. I knew it was not going to lay flat but I'm stubborn and I was going to force it. I stretched it and really reduced the puffiness but it still doesn't lay flat.

I was going to do a QAYG (Quilt as you Go) so I could really quilt the devil out of the center to flatten it as much as possible and then add borders. Now I just want to fold it up and put it away and not add any more fabric to it. I do like the design just frustrates me that its so wavy. Right now its only 45" square. arghhh...

So much for quilting to de-stress me before surgery. Well it is what it is as I can't do anything more with it now until I recoup from surgery.

Countdown 36 hours to going under the knife.

By now you've had your surgery, and I trust that it went well! You can deal with this quilt later. Maybe try to 'block' it by tacking it down to make it square. If that doesn't work, just get one of those big rollers that you see on road construction sites, you know, the kind that presses down tons of earth, and just roll the heck out of it! If that doesn't work, then at least it might release some tension, lol!

I do country quilts that pucker and wave and skew off pattern. the creators were not particular about their work and I 'work' around the problems. The quilt is absolutely what you have to to finish it and know that very few people will knit pic at what you've done. Keep Sparkin'!!

It's a beautiful quilt. Can't tell from the picture that it's wavy. Wish I had a good suggestion for you, but I'm definitely not a quilter (and yes I have tried).

Is it just the corners that won't lay flat?

It is beautiful Ginny. I don't know what to tell you to do to fix it.

It's beautiful. Maybe you could wet it and then lay it flat on a towel, cover with a sheet and put something heavy on it, like a piece of plywood. That might flatten it down.
