Perspective....

I got up this morning and headed down to my dad's and we took a nice bike ride. He had me set the pace and we ended up keeping a pretty steady 13/14 mph pace the entire time, we did about 9 miles out and back. It was a fantastic morning for it, I possibly could have gone further but I was getting tired by the time we were almost back. Really not too bad, and woah was that number of calories burned higher than I expected after punching it in to the exercise tracker. wow. effective saturday morning.

And then I realize that we used to as a family ride 10 miles out to Chesapeak City, relax for a bit, and 10 miles home. 15 miles out to Delaware City and 15 miles home. Delaware Double Cross (across the state and back, DE is smallllll) was 28 miles. When I was 12 I rode a very large chunk of the DE Bike to the Bay which is 75 miles to the beaches on saturday and 75 miles back north on sunday. I used to do all those things from about 9 until about 13 or 14 years old... I was probably in better shape as a kid than I thought I remembered being.

Sadly it all mostly fell apart and stopped as my parents then lived in different houses and my brother went to college - our little biking team fell apart. I didn't get along very well with my dad through a good part of my teenaged years and so spending a few hours of my saturday meandering through the back roads of delaware, not to mention having to get up before noon, really wasn't appealing to me. And really having at least one other person with you when biking on roads is best - it's much easier to garner respect from the cars when you take up significantly more room - so I never got into recreational riding alone. But things change, and I always did enjoy our bike rides, so I think we'll have to do this again some time :)

    That's great you can go out and enjoy the fresh air on your bike like this. I used to bike ride a lot more as a kid too but now its only riding the bike that gets you nowhere lol. It's very uplifting and motivating to see you are so active, keep it up girl! emoticon
